TEMPO-mediated late stage photochemical hydroxylation of biaryl sulfonium salts

Yue Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, the late stage photochemical hydroxylation of biaryl sulfonium salts was achieved using a TEMPO derivative as a simple oxygen source, under metal-free conditions. The scope and mechanism of this exceptionally simple synthetic method, which constructs important arylated phenols from aromatic C-H bonds, are discussed.

Structural and Electronic Effects on Phosphine Chalcogenide Stabilized Silicon Centers in Four-Membered Heterocyclic Cations

Alexander Falk et al.

Summary: Understanding the interplay of structural and electronic parameters in the stabilization of Lewis acidic silicon centers is crucial. Synthetic access was only achieved for sulfur- and selenium-based cations. Thorough study revealed important electronic and structural parameters affecting the stability of the intramolecularly stabilized cations. The stability of the cationic heterocycles is influenced by the substituents on the silicon and phosphorus atoms.

Synthesis of diphenyl-(2-thienyl)phosphine, its chalcogenide derivatives and a series of novel complexes of lanthanide nitrates and triflates

Troy Luster et al.

Summary: A novel synthesis of diphenyl(2-thienyl)phosphine and its derivatives was reported, and their characterization was performed. The reaction between the phosphine oxide and lanthanide nitrate resulted in the formation of metal-ligand complexes, which exhibited different stoichiometry and stereochemistry depending on the counteranion. The solid-state structures of the complexes showed various coordination geometries and arrangements of ligands around the metal, highlighting the importance of the counteranion in determining the complex structures.

Phosphine Sulfides: New Aspects of Organophosphorus Compounds

Minoru Hayashi

Summary: Phosphine sulfides, pentavalent derivatives of organophosphines, are commonly used as synthetic intermediates for the isolation of protected analogs due to their stability towards oxidation. Recent research has revealed various applications of phosphine sulfides as functional materials, organocatalysts, ligands, and extractants. The essential role of the thiophosphinyl group in the synthetic uses of phosphine sulfides has also been developed.

Recent advances in the carbon-phosphorus (C-P) bond formation from unsaturated compounds by s- and p-block metals

Indrani Banerjee et al.

Summary: Researchers worldwide have made significant breakthroughs in s- and p-block metal chemistry, particularly in the field of catalysis. Main group metals, due to their abundance and low cost, have emerged as essential alternatives to transition metal catalysts. This review article provides a detailed discussion on the catalytic addition of P-H bonds to unsaturated substrates for the synthesis of organophosphorus compounds with C-P bonds using various s- and p-block metal catalysts.
