Vestibular Function in Pendred Syndrome: Intact High Frequency VOR and Saccular Hypersensitivity

Niels Cramer West et al.

Summary: In patients with Pendred Syndrome and severe-to-profound hearing loss, vestibular function is mostly normal while saccular function may be abnormally sensitive, potentially due to a third window effect caused by the large vestibular aqueduct. The study used VHIT and cVEMP tests to evaluate vestibular function and found that VHIT VOR function was normal, but cVEMP responses were associated with VHIT saccades and advanced age.

Alteration of Vestibular Function in Pediatric Cochlear Implant Recipients

Hajime Koyama et al.

Summary: Vestibular dysfunction is a complication of cochlear implantation in pediatric patients, with cVEMP being the most affected test post-implantation. Minimally invasive surgery using a round window approach or an extended round window approach with straight electrodes is recommended for preserving vestibular function after CI in children.

Speech Perception and Production in Cochlear Implant Recipients with Pendred Syndrome

Jiri Skrivan et al.

Summary: The study showed that patients with Pendred syndrome who underwent cochlear implants demonstrated comparable language production and acquisition abilities to non-syndromic patients, indicating that the syndrome did not significantly impact their speech outcomes following implantation.
