Single-Process 3D-Printed Triaxial Accelerometer

Matic Arh et al.

Summary: This research introduces a three axial piezoresistive accelerometer where the whole sensor, including highly conductive electrical paths, is printed in the same process of thermoplastic material extrusion. The design and manufacturing solutions researched for the triaxial accelerometer can be applied to other 3D-printed sensors, for example, force sensors and opens up the possibility of a single-process 3D-printed smart structure.

A Case Study Using Accelerometers to Identify Illness in Ewes following Unintentional Exposure to Mold-Contaminated Feed

Sara C. Gurule et al.

Summary: The article investigates the use of accelerometers to monitor sheep behavior before and after illness caused by mold-contaminated feed. Results show a distinct decrease in activity for 4 days after the sheep were exposed to moldy feed, and an increase in activity after treatment of symptomatic sheep. The study suggests that real-time or near real-time accelerometers have the potential to detect illness in sheep.
