Dynamic Structural Evolution of [Rh(NO)2]+ Complex/Rh Metal Cluster in Zeolite during de-NOx via in Situ Formed NH3 under Lean/ Rich Periodic Conditions

Shunsaku Yasumura et al.

Summary: The dynamic structural evolution of Rh species in MOR zeolite was studied, revealing oxidation and cluster formation of Rh species under NO and H2 flow. Al sites increased the thermodynamic stability of Rh+ species and prevented over-oxidation reactions. NO capture and selective reduction to NH3 were observed using in situ IR measurements.

In Situ/Operando Spectroscopic Studies on the NH3-SCR Mechanism over Fe-Zeolites

Shunsaku Yasumura et al.

Summary: The reduction/oxidation half-cycles of Fe-exchanged mordenite zeolites for NH3-SCR of NO were investigated using in situ/operando spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. The mechanism involves the reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+ under NO and NH3 exposure, followed by the reoxidation of Fe2+ under O2 or NO + O2. Fe-zeolites with a higher number of Bronsted acid sites showed the highest NOx conversion.

Lean NOx Capture and Reduction by NH3 via NO+ Intermediates over H-CHA at Room Temperature

Shunsaku Yasumura et al.

Summary: The study found that NO' species formed on H-CHA and Cu-CHA are more stable at lower temperatures, with a negative apparent activation energy for the formation of NO+ species on H-CHA. DFT calculations showed that Bronsted acid sites in zeolite pores promote the dissociation of N2O4 intermediates and the reduction of NO+ species by NH3 has a considerably low activation barrier.

NH3 formation pathways from NO reduction by CO in the presence of water over Rh/Al2O3

Chun-Jae Yoo et al.

Summary: The N-2/N2O selectivity is determined by NO pressure, while NH3/(N2O + N-2) selectivity is a function of NO/CO ratio. The presence of NCO* species on Al2O3 is confirmed, and NH3 formation occurs through hydrolysis of isocyanate species bound on Al2O3.

The effects of ceria loading on three-way catalysts for passive SCR operation

Calvin R. Thomas et al.

Summary: The study found that a suitable amount of ceria in the Pd/CeOx/Al2O3 catalyst was beneficial for promoting essential reactions, while excess ceria had a negative impact on oxygen storage capacity. Additionally, potential reaction pathways for ammonia production were determined by the research.

Stabilizing Isolated Rhodium Cations by MFI Zeolite for Heterogeneous Methanol Carbonylation

Weixiang Shang et al.

Summary: This study presents a strategy to construct highly active Rh@MFI zeolite catalysts for heterogeneous methanol carbonylation by stabilizing isolated rhodium cations. The structure of the zeolite significantly promotes methanol carbonylation and achieves a state-of-the-art turnover frequency. This work offers a simple and general approach to heterogenize homogeneous catalysts for targeted chemical transformations.

Lean NOx Reduction by In-Situ-Formed NH3 under Periodic Lean/Rich Conditions over Rhodium-Loaded Al-Rich Beta Zeolites

Shunsaku Yasumura et al.

Summary: The study focused on the rational design of new lean NOx reduction catalysts under periodic lean and rich conditions. By investigating the reactions on Rh-exchanged Al-rich beta zeolites, it was found that NO was captured by Rh+ sites and selectively reduced to NH3, which in turn reduced NO to N-2. This cyclic process demonstrated effective NOx reduction in the lean de-NOx system.

Local structure and NO adsorption/desorption property of Pd2+ cations at different paired Al sites in CHA zeolite

Shunsaku Yasumura et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between the local structures and NO adsorption properties of Pd cations in Pd-CHA zeolites using DFT calculations and experimental measurements. The results showed that increasing Pd loading improved NO adsorption and shifted the NO desorption temperature to higher temperatures. Additionally, the effect of Al distribution on the NO adsorption property of Pd-CHA was examined, demonstrating that the NO adsorption/desorption properties of Pd-CHA can be tuned by controlling the Pd loading amount and the type of paired Al sites.
