Multiband character revealed from weak antilocalization in platinum thin films

Subhadip Jana et al.

Summary: Platinum (Pt) is widely used for spin-charge conversion in spintronics research due to its significant intrinsic spin-orbit interaction. By studying magnetoconductance originating from weak antilocalization, we can obtain microscopic information about the spin-orbit interaction and coherence phase breaking scattering among itinerant electrons. This study on Pt thin films with multiband conduction reveals the presence of strong and weak interband scattering between similar and different orbitals, respectively. The observed effects are consistent with the theoretical prediction of three Fermi sheets with different orbital characteristics, providing evidence for anisotropic spin-orbit interaction and e-e correlation in Pt thin films.

Evidence for weak-antilocalization-weak-localization crossover and metal-insulator transition in CaCu3Ru4O12 thin films

Subhadip Jana et al.

Summary: Artificial confinement of electrons by tailoring layer thickness can control competing phases in nano-layers of complex oxides. The transport behavior of CaCu3Ru4O12 undergoes changes from metallic to localized regime with decreasing thickness, and magnetotransport study shows a strong interplay between different scattering lengths leading to a crossover from weak-antilocalization to weak-localization in magnetoconductance.

Evidence for spin-orbit and e-e Coulomb interaction from a magnetotransport study on CaCu3Ru4O12 thin films

Subhadip Jana et al.

Summary: CaCu3Ru4O12 (CCRO) is a d-electron-based heavy-fermion metallic system with intriguing electronic properties. Magnetotransport measurements on metallic CCRO thin films reveal weak antilocalization (WAL) effects, with spin-orbit interaction (SOI) dominating in the weak-field regime and evidence of electron-electron interaction (EEI) contributions in the quantum interference regime. The presence of SOI and EEI has implications for understanding quantum magnetotransport properties in CCRO.
