An AI-based Prediction Model for Drug-drug Interactions in Osteoporosis and Paget's Diseases from SMILES

Truong Nguyen Khanh Hung et al.

Summary: Osteoporosis and Paget's disease are common bone diseases in the elderly, and drug-drug interactions are potential issues in combination therapy. This study develops an AI-based machine-learning model to predict the outcomes of interactions between drugs used for osteoporosis and Paget's treatment, offering a time and cost-saving approach to determine the best combination of medications in clinical practice.

Prediction of Hearing Preservation in Vestibular Schwannoma Surgery According to Tumor Size and Anatomic Extension

Yavor Bozhkov et al.

Summary: Surgery for small vestibular schwannomas can achieve excellent hearing preservation. Different grading systems have a significant impact on and correlate with postoperative hearing preservation. Tumor size appears to be more important than anatomical relationships.

Evaluating model uncertainty of an in situ state parameter-based simplified method for reliability analysis of liquefaction potential

Wei Duan et al.

Summary: This study thoroughly investigates the uncertainties in the simplified procedure of Seed and Idriss (1971) for liquefaction resistance and potential evaluation. The parameter uncertainties in the state parameter-based liquefaction evaluation model are examined. The probability of liquefaction for the state parameter-based model is determined using the FORM analysis. The results indicate that the uncertainty in the state parameter-based model can be characterized by mean and coefficient of variation. This study extends the use of the state parameter-based model and provides risk assessments for geotechnical engineering design.

On the road to explainable AI in drug-drug interactions prediction: A systematic review

Thanh Hoa Vo et al.

Summary: Unwanted drug-drug interactions in multi-diseases treatment remain a significant issue. Artificial intelligence (AI) prediction models have potential but concerns about their reliability due to their black-box nature. Building AI models with explainable mechanisms can enhance transparency and promote safety and clarity.

Prediction of the Functional Status of the Cochlear Nerve in Individual Cochlear Implant Users Using Machine Learning and Electrophysiological Measures

Jeffrey Skidmore et al.

Summary: This study aimed to create an objective predictive model for assessing the functional status of the cochlear nerve in individual cochlear implant users. Three machine learning algorithms created distinct distributions of CN indices for children with cochlear nerve deficiency and children with normal-sized CNs. Regardless of variations, CN indices calculated using all three techniques in adult CI users were significantly correlated with speech perception performance.

A hybrid GMDH neural network and logistic regression framework for state parameter-based liquefaction evaluation

Wei Duan et al.

Summary: The study evaluates soil liquefaction potential using a state parameter that accounts for relative density and effective stress, developing models and a probabilistic evaluation method. A new risk criterion associated with the state parameter and a mapping function for the relationship between factor of safety and liquefaction probability are proposed.

Preoperative Radiographic Predictors of Hearing Preservation After Retrosigmoid Resection of Vestibular Schwannomas

Yin Ren et al.

Summary: Radiographic predictors such as tumor size and extension relative to the internal auditory canal play a significant role in hearing preservation after retrosigmoid resection of vestibular schwannomas. Patients with small intracanalicular tumors and good preoperative hearing have the highest rates of hearing preservation, while tumors extending into the cerebellopontine angle may have worse outcomes if they have greater posterior and caudal extension relative to the internal auditory canal.

Electrical impedance guides electrode array in cochlear implantation using machine learning and robotic feeder

Nauman Hafeez et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between electrode array placement and insertion trajectories in a plastic model of the scala tympani during cochlear implant surgery. Machine learning algorithms were used to classify different insertion lengths, with Support Vector Machine achieving the highest accuracy for full insertion and Shallow Neural Network performing better for partial insertion data. The findings suggest that prediction of insertion direction using partial data has the potential to optimize real-time control of the insertion feeder for better electrode array placement.
