Crosstalk-Free, High-Resolution Pressure Sensor Arrays Enabled by High-Throughput Laser Manufacturing

Yihao Li et al.

Summary: The authors present a high-resolution flexible pressure sensor array fabricated through a two-step laser manufacturing process, which minimizes crosstalk interferences. The new design reduces the crosstalk coefficient and is particularly beneficial for pressure sensing on soft surfaces. Applications in tactile pattern recognition and minimally-invasive cancer surgery are demonstrated.

The Combination of Structure Prediction and Experiment for the Exploration of Alkali-Earth Metal-Contained Chalcopyrite-Like IR Nonlinear Optical Material

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: Design and fabrication of new infrared nonlinear optical materials with balanced properties are urgently needed. In this study, the first defect chalcopyrite-like alkali-earth metal selenide IR NLO material, DCL-MgGa2Se4, was successfully designed and fabricated using a structure prediction and experiment combined strategy. The material exhibits a wide band gap, high laser induced damage threshold, and suitable second harmonic generation response.

The time-programmable frequency comb and its use in quantum-limited ranging

Emily D. Caldwell et al.

Summary: The classic self-referenced frequency comb laser is widely used in frequency, time, and distance metrology for its rigid spacing of optical output. However, limitations arise in sensing applications due to the fixed nature of the comb output. In this study, we demonstrate an agile programmable frequency comb that allows for digitally controlled pulse time and phase, enabling quantum-limited sensitivity in sensing applications.

La3Ga3Ge2S3O10: An Ultraviolet Nonlinear Optical Oxysulfide Designed by Anion-Directed Band Gap Engineering

Hong Yan et al.

Summary: Chalcogenide-containing compounds have been widely studied for infrared nonlinear optical materials, but a new UV NLO oxysulfide La3Ga3Ge2S3O10 with an exceptionally wide band gap of 4.70 eV was synthesized and found to exhibit strong second harmonic generation response, potentially opening up new possibilities for NLO oxychalcogenides in the UV region.
