Phonon Anomalies Associated with Spin Reorientation in the Kagome Ferromagnet Fe3Sn2

Ge He et al.

Summary: Polarization- and temperature-dependent Raman data along with theoretical simulations were conducted on the Kagome ferromagnet Fe3Sn2, revealing good agreement between experimental energies and simulations. Analysis of the line widths showed relatively strong phonon-phonon coupling. Weak anomalies in temperature-dependent frequencies of A1g modes were observed around 100 K.

Gapless Dirac magnons in CrCl3

John A. Schneeloch et al.

Summary: Gapless Dirac magnons are present in bulk CrCl3, with inelastic neutron scattering intensity approaching zero at low temperatures. Upon warming, magnon-magnon interactions induce strong renormalization and decreased lifetimes.

Damped Dirac magnon in the metallic kagome antiferromagnet FeSn

Seung-Hwan Do et al.

Summary: This study reports on the inelastic neutron scattering studies of the prototypical kagome magnetic metal FeSn. The results show well-defined spin waves below 120 meV, which become progressively broadened above this energy due to interactions with the Stoner continuum. Using linear spin-wave theory, an effective spin Hamiltonian is determined that reproduces the measured dispersion. Interestingly, a Dirac magnon is found to occur at the K point, near the edge of the region where well-defined spin waves become unobservable.

Electron-phonon coupling in the charge density wave state of CsV3Sb5

Yaofeng Xie et al.

Summary: Metallic materials with kagome lattice structure have attracted significant attention due to their unique electronic properties and potential applications in unconventional superconductors. Recent research has found intertwined charge density wave (CDW) order and superconductivity in AV3Sb5 compounds. Neutron scattering experiments reveal that the CDW order in CsV3Sb5 is associated with static lattice distortion and electron-phonon coupling.

Spin excitations in metallic kagome lattice FeSn and CoSn

Yaofeng Xie et al.

Summary: The study reveals the evolution of spin excitations in 2D metallic kagome lattice materials, particularly in antiferromagnetic FeSn and paramagnetic CoSn, and identifies anomalous flat modes overlooked by the neutron scattering community for many years. The measurements show well-defined spin waves and correlated paramagnetic scattering in the materials, providing important insights into the spin excitations in these systems.

Evidence of spin reorientation and anharmonicity in kagome ferromagnet Fe3Sn2

Peng Wu et al.

Summary: The discovery of massive Dirac fermions and room temperature skyrmions in the ferromagnetic kagome metal Fe3Sn2 has garnered attention for potential applications in topological and spintronic devices. The topological spin texture in Fe3Sn2 primarily arises from the competition between anisotropy and exchange interaction. At higher temperatures, the anisotropy evolution reveals the transition of the kagome structure into an ideal lattice, while the presence of anharmonic phonons leads to lattice thermal conductivity degeneracy at high temperatures. Fe3Sn2 shows promise for the design and development of topological, spintronic, and thermoelectric devices.

Flat band carrier confinement in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene

Nikhil Tilak et al.

Summary: Researchers have demonstrated that flat bands in twisted bilayer graphene can amplify small doping inhomogeneity, leading to carrier confinement, a phenomenon previously only achievable in the presence of a strong magnetic field. This suggests that improving sample quality is crucial for studying electron physics in graphene.

Summary: The study reveals the existence of a three-dimensional CDW in (Rb, Cs)V3Sb5 with a 2 x 2 x 2 superstructure. The CDW does not induce phonon anomalies at the CDW wave vector, but results in a novel Raman mode that quickly dampens into a broad continuum.

Chiral phonons in the honeycomb sublattice of layered CoSn-like compounds

Andrzej Ptok et al.

Summary: Honeycomb and kagome lattices exhibit extraordinary electronic properties, especially in combination as observed in CoSn-like compounds, leading to the emergence of chiral phonon modes. The study of seven CoSn-like compounds demonstrates that the properties of chiral phonons do not depend on atomic mass ratio or intrinsic magnetic order, and the restoration of chiral phonons of d-block atoms is possible by removing inversion symmetry.
