Antiferromagnetic spin canting and magnetoelectric multipoles in h-YMnO3

M. Ramakrishnan et al.

Summary: Hexagonal YMnO3 is a prototype antiferromagnet with multiferroic behavior. Resonant x-ray diffraction is used to observe the out-of-plane canting of Mn3+ magnetic moments and the unexpected difference in spectral shapes at different temperatures in a single crystal of this material. Ab initio calculations suggest that this behavior may arise from interference between scattering from the canted magnetic moments and parity-odd atomic multipoles on the Mn3+ ions.

Hidden k-Space Magnetoelectric Multipoles in Nonmagnetic Ferroelectrics

Sayantika Bhowal et al.

Summary: Hidden k-space magnetoelectric multipoles exist in nonmagnetic systems with broken space-inversion symmetry, which can be detected and manipulated using magnetic Compton scattering and electric fields. This provides an experimental approach for directly measuring and tuning hidden properties.

Polar magnetization unveiled by polarized neutron diffraction

S. W. Lovesey

Summary: This article discusses the compulsory polar magnetism when magnetic ions occupy sites without inversion symmetry and its manifestation in neutron diffraction. It also mentions the influence of magnetic space groups and Dirac multipoles on the magnetic structure of materials. The authors raise questions about a recent study that failed to consider polar magnetism, raising concerns about the reliability of the results.

Magnetic properties of RuO 2 and charge-magnetic interference in Bragg diffraction of circularly polarized x-rays

S. W. Lovesey et al.

Summary: This study examines the magnetic structure of rutile-type RuO2 and analyzes it using methods such as X-ray diffraction and polarized neutron study. The results indicate that the magnetic properties of rutile-type RuO2 can be described by a simple antiferromagnetic structure.

AB2X6 Compounds and the Stabilization of Trirutile Oxides

Emily C. Schueller et al.

Summary: The properties of crystalline materials are strongly correlated with their structures, and predicting crystal structure from composition requires consideration of various parameters such as atomic or ionic radii, ionicity, electronegativity, periodic table position, and magnetism. Through machine learning methods and density functional theory calculations, researchers successfully predicted 16 new candidate trirutile oxides.
