In Vitro and Clinical Evaluation of Cannabigerol (CBG) Produced via Yeast Biosynthesis: A Cannabinoid with a Broad Range of Anti-Inflammatory and Skin Health-Boosting Properties

Eduardo Perez et al.

Summary: CBG is a minor non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa. It can be produced using yeast fermentation technology. CBG regulates more genes in human skin and shows better antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties compared to CBD. Clinical studies demonstrate the positive effects of CBG on reducing transepidermal water loss and redness in the skin.

The Origin and Biomedical Relevance of Cannabigerol

Anna Jastrzab et al.

Summary: The constant search for non-toxic pharmacologically active compounds has led to increased interest in plant-based ingredients. Cannabis sativa L. contains cannabigerol (CBG), which exhibits a wide range of biological activities such as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. CBG shows promise as a potential treatment for diseases requiring multidirectional pharmacotherapy. Additionally, the concentration of CBG in blood or oral fluid can be used to determine cannabis use.

Resolving nanoscopic structuring and interfacial THz dynamics in setting cements

Fu V. Song et al.

Summary: The setting dynamics of two commercial cements were studied using non-destructive THz spectroscopy and neutron scattering. Changes in interfacial particle dynamics and structural evolutions during setting were found to be correlated. The THz vibrations, especially at dynamically coordinated interfacial Al-atom pivots, played a crucial role in the setting process. These findings provide insights for developing nano-scopic strategies to optimize cement properties.

Cannabigerol Is a Potential Therapeutic Agent in a Novel Combined Therapy for Glioblastoma

Tamara T. Lah et al.

Summary: Among primary brain tumors, glioblastoma is the most aggressive and modern therapies have not significantly improved patient survival rates. Recent studies have shown that cannabigerol (CBG) may be a promising alternative to THC for treating glioblastoma, as it has similar anti-tumor effects without the psychoactive side effects. CBG has been found to effectively impair the progression of glioblastoma and destroy therapy-resistant cancer stem cells, suggesting it may have potential as a new adjuvant treatment strategy for this lethal cancer.

Cannabinoid Interactions with Cytochrome P450 Drug Metabolism: a Full-Spectrum Characterization

Peter T. Doohan et al.

Summary: The use of medicinal cannabis has increased significantly with global legalization, leading to concerns about drug-drug interactions (DDIs). A study evaluating the inhibitory potential of 12 cannabinoids on drug metabolism showed that most cannabinoids inhibit CYP2C9, with limited effects on other CYP isoforms. In vivo DDI studies may be justified for CYP2C9 substrates with a narrow therapeutic index.

Cytochrome P450-Catalyzed Metabolism of Cannabidiol to the Active Metabolite 7-Hydroxy-Cannabidiol

Jessica L. Beers et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that both CYP2C19 and CYP2C9 play important roles in CBD metabolism to the active metabolite 7-OH-CBD, while CYP3A4 contributes significantly to CBD metabolism through pathways other than 7-hydroxylation. Formation of 7-OH-CBD is correlated with human liver microsomal CYP2C19 activity, but not CYP2C19 genotype, and CYP2C9 was found to have a significant contribution to 7-OH-CBD generation.

Summary: Biological membranes define cell boundaries and compartmentalize processes, with the study of membrane protein structures playing a vital role in understanding their biological functions. Deposition of membrane protein structures into the PDB since 1985 allows for deeper insights, magnifying their impact in biology. Free access to membrane protein structures facilitates broader understanding and crucial new insights into their biological functions.
