Comparison of Fluoroquinolones and Other Antibiotic Prophylaxis Regimens for Preventing Complications in Patients Undergoing Transrectal Prostate Biopsy

Gabriele Tulone et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the incidence of infective complications after transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRUSBx) when using different antimicrobial prophylaxis regimens. The results showed that fluoroquinolone and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole regimens were significantly associated with a lower risk of infective complications.

Comparison of a combined regimen of fosfomycin and ciprofloxacin with ciprofloxacin alone as antimicrobial prophylaxis for transrectal prostate biopsy in the era of high fluoroquinolone-resistant rectal flora

Do Gyeong Lim et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the combination of fosfomycin and ciprofloxacin significantly reduced the risk of infectious complications after transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy compared to ciprofloxacin monotherapy. Additionally, the addition of fosfomycin was associated with a lower incidence of infectious complications. Furthermore, the fluoroquinolone resistance rate was higher in the group using both ciprofloxacin and fosfomycin.
