BIFURCATIONS AND HYDRA EFFECTS IN A REACTION-DIFFUSION PREDATOR-PREY MODEL WITH HOLLING II FUNCTIONAL RESPONSE

Hongyu Chen et al.

Summary: In this paper, the existence of the hydra effect and the relationship between mortality independent of predator density and different steady-state solutions of the system are analyzed in a reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with Holling II functional response through bifurcation analysis and numerical simulations. The hydra effect, a paradoxical result in ecological studies, refers to the situation where an increase in population mortality enhances its own population size. The existence of the hydra effect is investigated when the positive equilibrium point is locally asymptotically stable and Turing unstable, and numerical simulations confirm its existence in a spatially inhomogeneous steady-state solution of the reaction-diffusion system. Additionally, the paper introduces the existence of Turing bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation, and Turing-Hopf bifurcation with specific parameters, as well as the normal form for the Turing-Hopf bifurcation. Complex spatiotemporal dynamics near the Turing-Hopf bifurcation point are analyzed based on the obtained normal form, and the theoretical results are corroborated through numerical simulations.

Stability and bifurcation of a discrete predator-prey system with Allee effect and other food resource for the predators

Jialin Chen et al.

Summary: In this paper, a discrete predator-prey system with Allee effect and other food resources for the predators is studied. Conditions on the existence and stability of fixed points are obtained. The system is shown to undergo fold bifurcation and flip bifurcation. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the main results and the influence of Allee effect on the stability of the system. The study reveals that other food resources for the predator can enrich the dynamical behaviors of the system.

Neimark-Sacker Bifurcation of a Discrete-Time Predator-Prey Model with Prey Refuge Effect

Binhao Hong et al.

Summary: In this paper, a new discrete method is used to deduce a predator-prey model with discrete time in the interior of R-+(2) and study its local dynamics and Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. Discrete models, compared with continuous ones, have unique properties that provide a new perspective for understanding the changing patterns of biological populations. The existence and stability of equilibria are analyzed, and the formation conditions of Neimark-Sacker bifurcation are established. An attracting closed invariant curve appears, corresponding to periodic oscillations between predators and prey over a long period of time. Numerical simulations and their biological meanings are given to reveal complex dynamical behavior.

Flip bifurcation and Neimark-Sacker bifurcation in a discrete predator-prey model with Michaelis-Menten functional response

Xianyi Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, a semi-discretization method is used to investigate a predator-prey model with Michaelis-Menten functional response. The local stability of fixed points is examined and it is shown that the system experiences flip bifurcation and Neimark-Sacker bifurcation when one of the parameters reaches its critical value, using the center manifold theorem and bifurcation theory. Numerical simulations are also presented to illustrate the results, including maximum Lyapunov exponents, fractal dimensions, and phase portraits.

Dynamic analysis of a Leslie-Gower-type predator-prey system with the fear effect and ratio-dependent Holling III functional response

Hongyu Chen et al.

Summary: In this paper, we investigate the impact of fear in a Leslie-Gower predator-prey system with ratio-dependent Holling III functional response. We find that the fear effect can lead to interesting dynamical properties, and analyze the relationship between the fear coefficient and the positive equilibrium point. We also study the existence of Turing instability, Hopf bifurcation, and Turing-Hopf bifurcation. Numerical simulations are conducted to validate the theoretical results.

Stability and Optimal Control of Tree-Insect Model under Forest Fire Disturbance

Xiaoxiao Liu et al.

Summary: This article proposes a mathematical model for studying the relationship between insect outbreaks and wildfire disturbances, and an optimization model for determining suitable wildfire frequencies. The results show that forest fires have a significant impact on the equilibrium mechanism of tree-insect coexistence. Numerical simulations suggest a potential positive feedback between disturbances from wildfires and insect outbreaks in high fire intensity areas.

STABILITY AND HOPF BIFURCATION OF THE COEXISTENCE EQUILIBRIUM FOR A DIFFERENTIAL-ALGEBRAIC BIOLOGICAL ECONOMIC SYSTEM WITH PREDATOR HARVESTING

Kerioui Nadjah et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamics of a new bioeconomic predator-prey system with only predator's harvesting and Holling type III response function. The mathematical analysis shows that the positive equilibrium point is locally asymptotically stable when profit is below a critical value, but can become unstable through a Hopf bifurcation as profit increases. The study highlights the role of economic revenue in making the system stable and includes numerical simulations to support the analytical findings.
