C7 Epimerization of Benzylidene-Protected β-D-Idopyranosides Brings Structural Insights into Idose Conformational Flexibility

Maude Cloutier et al.

Summary: This study thoroughly investigated the reaction conditions and structural parameters of benzylidene acetal-protected 3-O-acyl-fi-D-idopyranosides through extensive glycosylation study, NMR analyses, X-ray diffraction, and quantum molecular modeling. It not only reported a direct and fi-stereoselective idosylation approach, but also provided fundamental structural insights into the conformational flexibility of idose.

Progress toward the Development of Glycan-Based Vaccines against Campylobacteriosis

Maude Cloutier et al.

Summary: Campylobacteriosis, caused by Campylobacter spp. infections, is a major health issue globally and there is an urgent need for an effective vaccine. The capsular polysaccharides of Campylobacter jejuni are important targets for designing glycoconjugate vaccines, with synthetic carbohydrate chemistry playing a crucial role in this process.

Synthesis of Rare 6-Deoxy-D-/L-Heptopyranosyl Fluorides: Assembly of a Hexasaccharide Corresponding to Campylobacter jejuni Strain CG8486 Capsular Polysaccharide

Tiantian Li et al.

Summary: Campylobacter jejuni, the leading cause of human diarrheal diseases, has been studied for potential antigens for innovative antibacterial glycoconjugation vaccines to address its high resistance. A novel method for synthesizing uncommon n-/L-6dHepp fluorides as glycosylating agents has been developed, allowing for the efficient construction of complex structures like the capsular polysaccharides of C. jejuni. This synthetic approach could serve as a rational starting point for developing synthetic vaccines combating Campylobacter infection.
