Constructing Synergistic Triazine and Acetylene Cores in Fully Conjugated Covalent Organic Frameworks for Cascade Photocatalytic H2O2 Production

Lipeng Zhai et al.

Summary: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a suitable template for photocatalytic H2O2 synthesis due to their tunable chemical structures and semiconductor properties. However, the photoactivity of COFs is still suboptimal due to inefficient charge generation, fast recombination of photogenerated charges, and limited electron transport. In this study, triazine and acetylene units were integrated into COFs, leading to efficient charge separation, suppressed charge recombination, and enhanced electron transport. Experimental and computational results demonstrated that triazine and acetylene units synergistically promoted H2O2 synthesis through a two-electron pathway.

Boosting exciton dissociation by regulating dielectric constant in covalent organic framework for photocatalysis

Guoqing Li et al.

Summary: Polymer semiconductor photocatalysts often face the issue of high exciton binding energy due to their low dielectric constant. This study used two crystalline polymer photocatalyst prototypes, neutral covalent organic framework (COF) and ionic covalent organic framework (iCOF), to investigate the exciton effect. By polarizing the iCOF with high dipole moment, the dielectric constant is greatly increased, leading to a lower exciton binding energy. This results in enhanced photocatalytic activity, as demonstrated by the significantly higher hydrogen peroxide production rate compared to the neutral COF under identical conditions. The findings highlight the potential of tuning the dielectric properties of polymer photocatalysts to regulate the exciton effect and improve photocatalytic behavior.
