Numerical study and structural optimization of mid-and-low temperature solar absorber/reactor for methanol decomposition

Lizhuang Dou et al.

Summary: This paper establishes a multi-physics coupling model of a mid-and-low temperature solar absorber/reactor (MLTSAR) and studies its thermochemical performance and influencing factors. The comparative study reveals that the methanol steam reforming (MSR) reaction has a higher methanol conversion rate (MCR) than the methanol decomposition (MD) reaction, but the solar thermochemical efficiency (STE) is lower. By optimizing the MLTSAR structure, the MCR and STE can be improved.

Performance evaluation and parametric analysis of an integrated diurnal and nocturnal cooling system driven by photovoltaic-thermal collectors with switchable film insulation

Hongkai Chen et al.

Summary: The study shows that using PVT collectors with switchable film insulation can meet the demand for both solar thermal cooling and nocturnal passive cooling, with a total energy yield 10% and 32% higher than glazed and unglazed PVT collectors, respectively. To improve annual total electricity savings, it is advantageous to increase the film transmittance for solar radiation, decrease the film transmittance for long-wave thermal radiation, and decrease the photovoltaic panel emissivity for long-wave thermal radiation.

Thermodynamic performance of solar-driven methanol steam reforming system for carbon capture and high-purity hydrogen production

Hongsheng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a thermodynamic analysis of solar-driven methanol steam reforming reaction in a Pd-Ag membrane reactor was conducted. The results showed that, under optimized reaction conditions, the conversion rate of methanol reached high levels and purified hydrogen and carbon dioxide could be collected separately. Due to the use of solar energy and the membrane reactor, it is predicted that significant coal and carbon dioxide savings can be achieved.

Comparative analysis of free cooling of photovoltaics - phase change versus evaporative cooling

Ciril Arkar et al.

Summary: This article investigates the free cooling techniques for PV cells and compares them with evaporative cooling technique under different climate conditions. The study shows that free cooling of PV cells can be as efficient as evaporative cooling in the hottest and coldest climates, but not in mild climates. The thermal properties of PCM layer play a significant role in the effectiveness of free cooling.

Thermal regulation of photovoltaic system for enhanced power production: A review

Abhishek Anand et al.

Summary: The integration of photovoltaic modules with building materials leads to a decrease in efficiency due to temperature rise. To manage this increase in temperature, various cooling technologies such as air cooling, water cooling, thermoelectric cooling, and phase change materials can be utilized. Research shows that passive cooling methods relying on convection are the simplest, while active water cooling is more effective but requires a constant supply of cold water.

The role of new energy in carbon neutral

Zou Caineng et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide is an important component in the global carbon cycle, with dual properties of converting organic matter in ecosystems and contributing to the greenhouse effect. Achieving carbon neutrality is a consensus, but faces challenges in politics, resources, technology, market, and energy structures. Carbon replacement, emission reduction, sequestration, and cycling are key approaches, with carbon replacement as a crucial aspect. New energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, and hydrogen power play a major role in achieving low carbon emissions, with green hydrogen serving as a reserve force. Artificial carbon conversion technology acts as a bridge between new and fossil energy sources to reduce emissions effectively. China is predicted to reach peak carbon dioxide emissions of 110x10(8) t in 2030, but could potentially decrease to 22x10(8) t, 33x10(8) t, and 44x10(8) t by 2060 under various scenarios. To achieve carbon neutrality, implementing a new energy structure and promoting energy independence strategy are essential in China.

Highly active and stable Ni/perovskite catalysts in steam methane reforming for hydrogen production

Zhiliang Ou et al.

Summary: Perovskites have been investigated as catalyst supports for Ni catalysts, with the study showing that doping Ca, Ba, Ce, and Zn in the A site decreases catalytic activity, while partial substitution of Mg and Sr can enhance activity. The Ni/La0.7Mg0.3AlO3-delta catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance and resistance to carbon deposition after a stability test lasting 35 hours, attributed to higher dispersion of active Ni and stronger interaction due to partial Mg doping.
