Residual feed intake for Australian Merino sheep estimated in less than 42 days of trial

Fernando Amarilho-Silveira et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore residual feed intake (RFI) models by decreasing the test duration. By comparing the correlations between different models, it was found that the RFI models with a duration of 35 days can reduce the test period by 7 days while maintaining accuracy and providing more data collection.

Residual Feed Intake and Rumen Metabolism in Growing Pelibuey Sheep

Carlos Arce-Recinos et al.

Summary: This study investigated residual feed intake, volatile fatty acid production, and enteric methane emissions in growing Pelibuey sheep. The results showed that low residual feed intake lambs had lower intake of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, and neutral detergent fiber, resulting in lower methane emissions.

Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Glycerol Monolaurate (GML) or the Combination of GML and Tributyrin on Growth Performance and Rumen Microbiome of Weaned Lambs

Yi Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with glycerol monolaurate (GML) or the combination of GML and tributyrin (TB) on the growth performance and rumen microbiome of weaned lambs. The results showed that dietary supplementation with GML or the combination of GML and TB improved the growth performance and nutrient digestibility of weaned lambs, and also changed the composition of the rumen microbiome.

The effect of sheep genetic merit and feed allowance on nitrogen partitioning and isotopic discrimination

H. Khanaki et al.

Summary: Animal nitrogen partitioning is influenced by genetic merit and feed allowance, with higher feed levels leading to increased nitrogen excretion and higher genetic merit resulting in elevated urinary nitrogen, faecal nitrogen, and manure nitrogen. However, higher feed only increased urinary nitrogen excretion in sheep with high genetic merit, with no effect observed in sheep with low genetic merit. Additionally, regression analysis suggests the potential use of plasma Delta N-15 to reflect the effects of genetic merit and feed allowance on nitrogen use efficiency and urinary nitrogen intake.

High-dose vitamin B1 therapy prevents the development of experimental fatty liver driven by overnutrition

Mugagga Kalyesubula et al.

Summary: Fatty liver, caused by overnutrition and sedentary lifestyle, currently lacks approved drug therapy. Research shows that treatment with thiamine (vitamin B1) can counter the development of fatty liver caused by overnutrition.
