Strategies for improving the environmental performance of nickel production in China: Insight into a life cycle assessment

Yueyang Bai et al.

Summary: Nickel is a critical metal for global low-carbon energy transition, but its production processes have significant environmental implications. The environmental damage of China's nickel mining and beneficiation industry has been increasing in recent years. By implementing sustainable strategies and extended producer responsibility, the environmental impact of the nickel industry can be reduced.

Global environmental cost of using rare earth elements in green energy technologies

Saeed Rahimpour Golroudbary et al.

Summary: This article analyzes the environmental impact of using rare earth elements in green energy technologies, finding that the production of green energy leads to depletion of REEs reserves and an increase in greenhouse gas emissions. Measures need to be taken to increase REEs reuse and recycling, limit dematerialization, increase substitution, and develop new elimination technologies.

A review on comprehensive recycling of spent power lithium-ion battery in China

Wenhao Yu et al.

Summary: The high demand for electric vehicles in China has led to an increase in power lithium-ion battery (LIB) production, resulting in a large number of spent power LIBs. Comprehensive recycling, including recovery and reuse, is a promising direction to maximize the utilization of spent power LIBs. This article reviews the current situation of comprehensive recycling of spent LIBs in China and discusses the pretreatment, recovery of materials, and reuse process of spent power LIBs.
