Management and outcomes of proximal tibiofibular joint ganglion cysts: A systematic review

Lachlan S. Huntington et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the surgical treatment options for proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) ganglion cysts, with a focus on recurrence rates and complications. The results showed that addressing the PTFJ during cyst excision can reduce recurrence rates, but the morbidity from PTFJ hemi-resection and arthrodesis is poorly reported. Primary excision offers resolution in most cases, but revision cyst excision alone for recurrent cysts is an inadequate treatment option. Data on patient reported outcomes for all treatment types are lacking.
