Any Postoperative Surveillance Improves Survival after Endovascular Repair of Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

Amanda R. Phillips et al.

Summary: This study investigated predictors of incomplete surveillance after endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (rAAA) and examined the impact of adherence on outcomes. The findings showed that over 50% of patients had incomplete surveillance, which was associated with male sex, lack of a primary care provider, and longer driving distance. Any form of follow-up conferred a survival benefit, but incomplete surveillance was associated with a lower risk of reintervention.

Patient-Reported Outcomes of Yearly Imaging Surveillance in Patients Following Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair

A. C. M. Geraedts et al.

Summary: This study investigated the anxiety levels of patients after endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) before receiving imaging surveillance results and compared them with the general 65+ Dutch population. The results showed that patients did not experience a significant increase in anxiety levels just before receiving the imaging results compared to standard anxiety levels. However, compared to the general 65+ Dutch population, patients experienced more anxiety and worse physical outcomes.

Summary: Discontinued follow up is not associated with poor outcomes in patients with initial post-operative CTA without abnormalities. Future prospective studies are needed to determine which patients can safely reduce the frequency of imaging follow-up.
