Field measurement and numerical simulation of dust migration in a high-rise building of the mine hoisting system

Xinyue Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatiotemporal distribution of coal dust in high-rise buildings using field measurements and numerical simulations. Results show that dust distribution varies in time and space, and the dust concentration differs among different floors.

Characterization of blood protein adsorption on PM2.5 and its implications on cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of PM2.5

Zixuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protein corona formed on PM2.5 particles in biological fluids and found differences in corona composition between plasma and after BALF exposure. The results showed an abundance of serum albumin, hemoglobin, and fibrinogen proteins in the corona, and highlighted the contributions of various types of interactions in the adsorption process. Additionally, the study demonstrated that the protein corona could affect cellular internalization of PM2.5 and subsequent oxidative stress responses.

Characterization of nano-to-micron sized respirable coal dust: Particle surface alteration and the health impact

Rui Zhang et al.

Summary: The chemical and physical properties of coal dust particles significantly affect the inhalation of respirable coal dust by miners, leading to lung diseases such as CWP and silicosis. Various experimental techniques were used to comprehensively investigate the properties of micron-/nano-coal particles, showing that nano-coal dust has higher carbon content and aromaticity, lower oxygen content, and reduced oxygen-containing functional groups compared to micron-scale coal dust. The increased pore volume and surface area in nano-coal dust, estimated by low-pressure CO2 and N-2 adsorption, suggest potentially higher toxicity when inhaled by coal miners due to weaker wettability and enhanced surface area.

Numerical simulation and experimental study of vortex blowing suction dust control in a coal yard with multiple dust production points

Deji Jing et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new type of vortex blowing suction dust control technology to improve the dust removal efficiency for coal yards. The experimental comparison showed that the vortex blowing suction technique had a better dust removal performance, with dust removal efficiencies of 93.25% and 41.19% for the former and latter techniques, and dust escape rates of 6.31% and 46.60%, respectively.

An assessment of the dust suppression performance of a hybrid ventilation system during the tunnel excavation process: Numerical simulation

Xiaojiao Cai et al.

Summary: Controlling dust pollution in mine tunnels is crucial for worker health and safety. The use of FPNA ventilation systems can effectively suppress dust and protect workers' health. Through numerical simulations and adjustments in air exhaust quantity and pressure duct height, optimal parameters for dust suppression performance can be determined.

CFD investigation on gas-solid two-phase flow of dust removal characteristics for cartridge filter: a case study

Danhong Gao et al.

Summary: The study simulated the influence of different air volume and permeability values on a filter cartridge dust collector using FLUENT software. The optimal air volume for dust removal was found to be 1600 m(3)/h, and the best porosity was 0.65. Within specific parameter ranges, these factors have an optimization effect on the operation of the filter cartridge dust collector.
