On the effective models of spin-orbit coupling in a two-dimensional electron gas

K. Samokhin

Summary: In this study, effective one-and two-band Hamiltonians of a noncentrosymmetric two-dimensional electron gas in the presence of a magnetic field are derived using the method of invariants. The classification of antisymmetric spin-orbit and magnetic coupling terms near the Gamma point for all two-dimensional crystal symmetries is developed. The effective Hamiltonian is dependent on the symmetry of the Bloch bands at the Gamma point and is described by a double-valued corepresentation of the two-dimensional magnetic point group, with some bands exhibiting cubic spin-orbit coupling and strongly anisotropic effective Zeeman interaction.

Quartic asymmetric exchange for two-dimensional ferromagnets with trigonal prismatic symmetry

I. A. Ado et al.

Summary: This paper suggests a possible origin of noncollinear magnetic textures in ferromagnets with the D3h point group symmetry. The authors use symmetry analysis to identify the possible contribution to the free energy density and predict long-range conical magnetic spirals. They relate their predictions to recent experimental results.

Beyond skyrmions: Review and perspectives of alternative magnetic quasiparticles

Boerge Goebel et al.

Summary: Magnetic skyrmions have attracted significant research interest since their discovery a decade ago, due to their non-trivial real-space topology and potential technological applications. However, the utilization of skyrmions in spintronic devices has not been achieved yet, mainly because of shortcomings in their current-driven motion. Additionally, beyond skyrmions, there are emerging trends in the field of topological spin textures.

Noncollinear Ground State from a Four-Spin Chiral Exchange in a Tetrahedral Magnet

I. A. Ado et al.

Summary: The study introduces a quartic chiral term that induces a phase transition and the formation of a noncollinear magnetic cone ground state in a ferromagnet. It is shown that an external magnetic field and four-spin chiral exchange can stabilize the noncollinear ground state.

Antichiral ferromagnetism

Filipp N. Rybakov et al.

Summary: By combining symmetry-based analysis with numerical computations, a new kind of magnetic ordering-antichiral ferromagnetism-was predicted. This research demonstrated that nontrivial smooth magnetic textures exhibiting antichirality can be realized in crystals with full tetrahedral symmetry, despite chiral interaction terms being forbidden by symmetry. The unconventional ground state revealed in this study gives rise to unique magnetic domains and skyrmions.
