Cross-Linking Induced Emission of Polymer Micelles for High-Contrast Visualization Level 3 Details of Latent Fingerprints

Rou Zou et al.

Summary: In this study, fluorescent polymer micelles (PMs) were designed and synthesized for high-contrast fluorescence imaging of latent fingerprints (LFPs). The PMs exhibited aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) properties, allowing for high water dispersibility, high selectivity, a large Stokes shift, good photostability, and excellent long-term stability. The PMs preferentially adhered onto the ridges of fingerprints due to hydrophobic interaction, and the cross-linking reaction induced emission properties enabled high-contrast imaging of LFPs in different substrates.

Biocompatible Probes Based on Rare-Earth Doped Strontium Aluminates with Long-Lasting Phosphorescent Properties for In Vitro Optical IMAGING

David G. Calatayud et al.

Summary: The demand for biomedical imaging tools has rapidly increased in recent decades. Fluorescence imaging has gained attention as a non-invasive and inexpensive technique. However, tissue auto-fluorescence and limited tissue penetration of low wavelength excitation light restrict its application. Phosphorescent nanoparticles show promise as they combine nanoscale properties with long-lasting phosphorescence and can avoid autofluorescence.

Early detection of cancer

David Crosby et al.

Summary: Early detection of cancer is crucial for improving survival rates, but unfortunately, a significant number of cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Overcoming various challenges is essential to achieve early detection for all cancers, including understanding high-risk individuals, elucidating the biology and trajectory of precancer and early cancer, and developing sensitive and specific detection technologies.

Tumor-microenvironment triggered signal-to-noise boosting nanoprobes for NIR-IIb fluorescence imaging guided tumor surgery and NIR-II photothermal therapy

Peiyuan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a tumor microenvironment responsive nanoprobes for precise NIR-IIb fluorescence imaging guided tumor surgery and efficient NIR-II photothermal therapy were developed. The nanoprobes showed efficient tumor cell adhesion and accumulation, and could enhance the NIR-IIb signal-to-noise ratio for tumor margin delineation. Moreover, the nanoprobes achieved complete dissection of various tumor models under the guidance of NIR-IIb fluorescence imaging and showed great efficacy for micro-metastasis eradication via NIR-II photothermal effects. The nanoprobes also demonstrated great potential as a versatile NIR-IIb fluorescent imaging platform for precise tumor surgery and tumor therapy guidance.

Design of the tumor microenvironment-multiresponsive nanoplatform for dual-targeting and photothermal imaging guided photothermal/photodynamic/chemodynamic cancer therapies with hypoxia improvement and GSH depletion

Ying Yang et al.

Summary: A novel nanoplatform was designed to overcome the limitations of reactive oxygen species (ROS) mediated therapies in the complex tumor microenvironment (TME). The nanoplatform utilized and improved the TME to achieve effective antitumor effects, including photothermal therapy (PTT), photodynamic therapy (PDT), and photothermal imaging. Through multiple regulation of the TME, the nanoplatform enhanced the production of ROS and reduced the antioxidant capacity of the tumor, leading to improved therapeutic outcomes.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
