Oral health-related quality of life of patients with acute and chronic temporomandibular disorder diagnostic subtypes

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different subtypes and chronicity of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The results showed that painful TMDs had a greater negative impact on OHRQoL compared to nonpainful TMDs. Additionally, chronicity of TMDs only affected the OHRQoL of painful TMDs. Understanding the subtypes and chronicity of TMDs is important in assessing their impact on OHRQoL.

Distribution of anxiety and depression among different subtypes of temporomandibular disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This systematic review investigated the distribution and severity of anxiety and depression in patients diagnosed with different subtypes of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). The findings suggest that patients with myofascial pain are more anxious and more depressed than patients with other subtypes of TMD. Proper assessment of the psychological state of patients is essential for offering adequate treatment and management of each specific subtype of TMD.

The prevalence of comorbid chronic pain conditions among patients with temporomandibular disorders A systematic review

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the presence of comorbid conditions among patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). The results showed a high prevalence of chronic pain comorbidities among patients with TMDs, with over 50% reporting chronic back pain, myofascial syndrome, and chronic stomach pain. Psychiatric disorders were less commonly studied in this population.

Presence of widespread pain predicts comorbidities and treatment response in temporomandibular disorders patients

Summary: This study investigated the presence of widespread pain in a well-defined TMD group and found that patients with widespread pain showed higher somatization and anxiety levels. Treatment response was also less in the widespread pain group. Somatic and temporomandibular disorder symptoms-Idioms of psychological distress in Southeast Asian youths

Significant differences in psychological distress were observed among youths with varying severity of somatic and TMD symptoms, with female gender, TMD symptoms, and stress identified as risk factors for somatic symptoms. Additionally, somatic symptoms and stress were identified as potential factors for TMDs.

Subjective sleep quality and temporomandibular disorders: Systematic literature review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study evaluated the general subjective sleep quality in individuals with and without TMD, and found an association between subjective sleep quality and different TMD diagnostic groups, particularly muscle disorders and joint pain. Individuals with poor subjective sleep quality were found to have a significantly increased odds ratio of TMD prevalence.

Quality of life in young and middle age adult temporomandibular disorders patients and asymptomatic subjects: a systematic review and meta-analysis
