Ligand-Controlled Ruthenium-Catalyzed Borrowing-Hydrogen and Interrupted-Borrowing-Hydrogen Methodologies: Functionalization of Ketones Using Methanol as a C1 Source

Priyabrata Biswal et al.

Summary: In this study, we report simple, efficient, and phosphine-free N,C-Ru and N,N-Ru catalysts for ligand-controlled borrowing-hydrogen and interrupted-borrowing-hydrogen methods. MeOH is used as a green and sustainable C1 source to form C-C bonds through BH and I-BH methods. Controlled experiments reveal that an in situ formed formaldehyde plays a crucial role in the ligand-controlled selective protocol.

Cobalt(II)porphyrin-Mediated Selective Synthesis of 1,5-Diketones via an Interrupted-Borrowing Hydrogen Strategy Using Methanol as a C1 Source

Priyabrata Biswal et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel cobalt(II)porphyrin-mediated acceptorless dehydrogenation of methanol, which has been successfully applied in the synthesis of 1,5-diketones and substituted pyridines. The intermediate protonated cobalt(II)-porphyrin methoxide complex plays a crucial role in generating formaldehyde and a metal hydride. Overall, this methodology offers potential advantages in terms of environmental friendliness.

Recent advances in nickel-catalyzed C-C and C-N bond formation via HA and ADC reactions

Murugan Subaramanian et al.

Summary: Earth-abundant 3d-transition-metal catalysts, particularly nickel catalysts, have been of great interest in contemporary catalysis as suitable alternatives to noble metals. Nickel catalysts exhibit distinctive redox properties, making them efficient in sustainable organic transformations, especially in the construction of C-C and C-N bonds through hydrogen auto-transfer (HA) and acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling (ADC) reactions.
