Interference of optical phonons in diamond studied using femtosecond pulses of polarized near-infrared light

Itsuki Takagi et al.

Summary: The phononic interference of optical phonons in diamond is investigated using polarization-based pump-probe measurements. It is found that the phonon amplitude can be enhanced or suppressed depending on the polarization of the second pump pulse. These observations are explained using a quantum-mechanical model involving the Raman tensor of the diamond lattice structure. The results provide important insights into the behavior and characteristics of phonons in diamond.

Coherent control of optical phonons in GaAs by relative-phase-locked optical pulses under perpendicularly polarized conditions

Hiromu Matsumoto et al.

Summary: Coherent control of optical phonons in GaAs was achieved by using phased-locked paired femtosecond pulses on an n-GaAs(001) sample. The results suggest that the diagonal components of the Raman tensor play a critical role in the generation of coherent longitudinal optical phonons, contrasting previous experiments using parallel-polarized pulses.

Theory for coherent control of longitudinal optical phonons in GaAs using polarized optical pulses with relative phase locking

Itsuki Takagi et al.

Summary: A theoretical model for coherent control of longitudinal optical phonons in GaAs (001) by double-pulse excitation was derived using a simplified band model and allowed/forbidden Raman scattering. The time evolution of electron-phonon states under various polarization conditions was calculated. Results show that the amplitude of longitudinal optical phonons controlled by two pulses varies with the delay between the pulses.
