Evidence for the association of triatomic molecules in ultracold 23Na40K + 40K mixtures

Huan Yang et al.

Summary: The formation of triatomic molecules in mixtures of ultracold atoms and diatomic molecules using Feshbach resonance remains challenging. However, evidence of triatomic molecule association near the Feshbach resonance has been reported, and the binding energy of the triatomic molecules has been estimated.

Creation of an ultracold gas of triatomic molecules from an atom-diatomic molecule mixture

Huan Yang et al.

Summary: In recent years, progress has been made in preparing and controlling ultracold diatomic molecular gases. The next challenge is to produce ultracold polyatomic molecular gases. This study reports the creation of an ultracold gas of triatomic molecules from a mixture of ground-state diatomic molecules and atoms. The creation of triatomic molecules was achieved through adiabatic magneto-association using an atom-diatomic molecule Feshbach resonance. The obtained triatomic molecules were characterized by directly detecting them using radio-frequency dissociation. The importance lies in the exploration of three-body potential energy surface and the preparation of quantum degenerate triatomic molecular gases.

Evaporation of microwave-shielded polar molecules to quantum degeneracy

Andreas Schindewolf et al.

Summary: Ultracold polar molecules, with their strong electric dipole moments and rich internal structure, offer great potential for exploring exotic quantum matter, implementing quantum information schemes, and testing the fundamental symmetries of nature. However, the unstable collisions between molecules have so far prevented direct cooling to quantum degenerate states. In this study, we demonstrate evaporative cooling of fermionic sodium-potassium molecules to temperatures well below the Fermi temperature using microwave shielding.

Resonant Control of Elastic Collisions between 23Na40K Molecules and 40K Atoms

Zhen Su et al.

Summary: We have demonstrated the resonant control of elastic scattering cross sections near Feshbach resonances between (NaK)-Na-23-K-40 molecules and K-40 atoms by studying their thermalization. The scattering cross sections show a variation of more than 2 orders of magnitude near the resonance, and can be accurately described by an asymmetric Fano profile. This observation opens up possibilities for studying strongly interacting atom-molecule mixtures and improving our understanding of complex atom-molecule Feshbach resonances.

Molecule-molecule and atom-molecule collisions with ultracold RbCs molecules

Philip D. Gregory et al.

Summary: Understanding ultracold collisions involving molecules is essential for experiments, where the lifetime of molecular ensembles in optical traps is often limited by inelastic collisions. By modulating the intensity of the optical trap, collisional loss of molecules can be partially suppressed. In atom-molecule mixtures, the rate of collisional loss of molecules scales linearly with the density of atoms and is rate-limited by two-body atom-molecule processes.

Magnetic Feshbach resonances in collisions of 23Na40K with 40K

Xin-Yao Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers have identified over 80 magnetic Feshbach resonances in collisions of ultracold (NaK)-Na-23-K-40 with K-40, suggesting that they are likely long-range states of triatomic complexes where the quantum numbers of separated atom and molecule are preserved. These resonant states are distinct from the chaotic bath of short-range states and are expected to be a common feature of alkali-metal diatom + atom systems.

Tuning of dipolar interactions and evaporative cooling in a three-dimensional molecular quantum gas

Jun-Ru Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates tunable elastic dipolar interactions among ultracold polar molecules in three dimensions, facilitated by an electric field-induced shielding resonance that suppresses reactive loss. The thermalization rate is controlled by an external electric field, showing the anisotropic dipolar interaction. Evaporative cooling mediated by dipolar interactions in three dimensions is achieved, paving the way for the study of collective quantum many-body physics.
