Development and Evaluation of a Respiratory Monitoring Smart Garment Based on Notched Optical Fiber Sensing Fabric

Jun Xu et al.

Summary: Clothing-based respiratory monitoring provides real-time non-invasive monitoring for individuals and can be used for daily health observation. This study developed a respiratory monitoring garment using an optical fiber sensing fabric woven into plain fabric. Tests showed that the smart garment maintained good consistency with commercial sensors in monitoring the respiratory waveform and rate, with a maximum error of 2 rpm. The garment demonstrated high monitoring accuracy, motion monitoring stability, and comfort, making it suitable for daily respiratory monitoring.

High sensitive and fast response humidity sensor based on polymer composite nanofibers for breath monitoring and non-contact sensing

Xifang Li et al.

Summary: A rapid and stable polymeric humidity sensor was demonstrated using electrospun sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone)/polyvinyl butyral (SPEEK/PVB) composite nanofiber, showing improved sensing characteristics with SPEEK and PVB ratio of 1:3. The composite nanofiber humidity sensor exhibited high sensitivity, wide working range, small hysteresis, fast response time, rapid recovery time, and stable performance, making it promising for real-time humidity monitoring and non-contact sensing applications.

Rationale for developing tunable laser spectroscopy (TLS) technology for high resolution real-time carbon dioxide monitoring (capnography) in human breath

Joachim D. Pleil et al.

Summary: Capnography, or the real-time monitoring of exhaled CO2 concentration, is a valuable tool in hospitals for assessing patient health during anesthesia, emergency care, and critical care. It provides information on lung function, airway obstruction, alveolar ventilation, and disease progression, with applications ranging from verifying proper airway device placement to assessing disease severity and treatment response. advancements in technology have made CO2 measurements more mobile, allowing for wider use in various medical and occupational settings.
