C@MoS2 modified separator as efficient trapper and catalysis for promoting polysulfide conversion in Li-S battery

Jianfeng Wang et al.

Summary: The traditional PP separator fails to inhibit the polysulfide shuttle effect in lithium-sulfur batteries and has safety issues at high temperatures. This study develops layered hierarchical C@MoS2 spheres as a modified separator to address these problems. The Li-S batteries with the modified C@MoS2 separator exhibit high specific capacity and superior cycling stability, even at high rates. This is attributed to the efficient inhibition of shuttle effect by the adsorption and catalytic conversion of polysulfide on the C@MoS2 separator. The findings of this work have important reference value for the future large-scale application of lithium-sulfur batteries.
