Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections A Review

Susan Tuddenham et al.

Summary: Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the US had a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in 2018. Rates of gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis in the US have increased, while rates of HSV-1 and HSV-2 have declined. Effective treatments are available for most STIs, but antimicrobial resistance limits oral therapies for gonorrhea and Mycoplasma genitalium, and no cure is available for genital herpes.

Carbon dots as nanocatalytic medicine for anti-inflammation therapy

Bo Kong et al.

Summary: In this study, biocompatible metal-free carbon dots were prepared using a hydrothermal method. These carbon dots exhibited peroxidase-like, catalase-like, and superoxide dismutase-like activities. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated the potential of these carbon dots in efficiently scavenging excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reducing inflammation.

Recent advances in near-infrared-II hollow nanoplatforms for photothermal-based cancer treatment

Li Zhang et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the recent advances of NIR-II hollow nanoplatforms in cancer treatment. The hollow nanoplatforms, with good biocompatibility and unique structures, can be used for multi-modal therapies. By serving as photothermal agents themselves and combining with the functions of encapsulated therapeutic units, the hollow nanoplatforms achieve synergistic cancer treatment. Moreover, the hollow nanoplatforms can also be used as photoacoustic imaging contrast agents, making them multifunctional nanotheranostics.

Pre-clinical MRI-guided intravesical instillation theranosis of bladder cancer by tumor-selective oxygen nanogenerator

Weiqiang Lin et al.

Summary: This study presents a nanoscale oxygen generator (PLZ4@SeD) for intravesical instillation of bladder tumor, aiming to overcome hypoxia and low target efficiency issues. The results demonstrate that PLZ4@SeD can precisely target the tumor area within the bladder, enhance MRI contrast efficacy, and improve tumor permeability. Furthermore, PLZ4@SeD effectively consumes excess H2O2 inside the tumor, thus relieving hypoxia resistance and inhibiting BCa cell proliferation.

Development of copper vacancy defects in a silver-doped CuS nanoplatform for high-efficiency photothermal-chemodynamic synergistic antitumor therapy

Zizhen Qin et al.

Summary: The use of silver-doped copper sulfide nanoparticles (BSA-Ag:CuS) synthesized through a biomineralization strategy significantly enhanced the photothermal efficiency and near-infrared absorption capability of CuS nanoparticles, enabling 1064 nm laser-guided photothermal therapy. BSA-Ag:CuS nanoparticles demonstrated good stability, low toxicity, and strong antitumor ability in in vivo and in vitro biological experiments, showing promise as antitumor agents for future clinical cancer treatment.

Mitochondria and lysosome-targetable fluorescent probes for hydrogen peroxide

Yongchun Wei et al.

Summary: Hydrogen peroxide, a key member of reactive oxygen species, regulates physiological processes like cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. Abnormal production of H2O2 can lead to diseases. Various fluorescent probes for H2O2 detection at the subcellular level, including those targeting mitochondria and lysosomes, have been developed and utilized.
