Observation of the Wannier-Stark ladder in plasmonic waveguide arrays

Nanophotonic nonlinear and laser devices exploiting bound states in the continuum

Summary: This article reviews the recent progress in the development of nanophotonic devices using bound states in the continuum (BICs), which have high quality factors and spatial confinement. The suppression of cavity radiative losses enables strong nonlinear optical responses or low-power operation. Harnessing the long-lived, spatially-confined BICs has emerged as a promising approach to enhance nanophotonic quality factors. The article discusses the formation mechanisms of various types of BICs and reviews their recent applications in passive and active nanophotonic devices.

Spin oscillations of a single-mode polariton system driven by a plane wave

Summary: This theoretical study investigates a single-mode polariton system with linear coupling of spin components. It shows that when combined with a two-particle interaction, the spin coupling can lead to a spontaneous symmetry breaking and a switch from linear to circular polarization under resonant driving. The asymmetric steady states can also lose stability and exhibit oscillatory and chaotic dynamics. The study explores a continuous transition between a multistable regime with broken spin symmetry and full-span oscillations of circular polarization degree, which effectively reestablishes the symmetry. The oscillations are robust against strong perturbations.

Summary: This study presents a general approach to predict the behavior of multi-mode subwavelength and wavelength-scale optical parametric oscillators, showing that the OPO threshold can be reduced by the interaction between modes and lead to a phase transition for enhanced sensing. Additionally, an explicit connection is established between second-harmonic generation efficiency and OPO threshold, allowing for estimation based on measured or simulated second-harmonic generation.

Bloch Oscillations of Hybrid Light-Matter Particles in a Waveguide Array

Summary: This study reports on the Bloch oscillations of exciton-polaritons in an array of coupled microcavity waveguides, achieved by carefully designing the waveguide widths and mutual couplings to induce a constant energy gradient perpendicular to the direction of motion. This technique allows for direct observation and study of Bloch oscillations in real- and momentum-space, supported by numerical simulations based on a modified Gross-Pitaevskii approach. It represents an important application of quantum mechanics concepts to integrated solid state devices using quantum fluids of light.

Spatial Bloch oscillations in acoustic waveguide arrays

Summary: The study designed a novel acoustic waveguide supported by spoof acoustic surface waves, allowing effective tuning of the effective refractive index and construction of a discrete waveguide array to simulate electron probability wave evolution. The relationship between spatial Bloch oscillations and transverse refractive index gradient, as well as the impact of waveguide interval on oscillation amplitude, was discussed through numerical simulations and experiments. The acoustic waveguide array serves as a versatile testbed for exploring quantum mechanical effects in acoustic system.
