Para-xylene production from toluene methylation: Novel catalyst synthesis, fabrication and ANFIS modelling

Mahdi Abdi-Khanghah et al.

Summary: This study synthesizes Al-HMS industrial catalysts with different Si/Al ratios and H-ZSM-11 industrial catalysts with surface modification. The properties of the catalysts were characterized, and the effects of temperature, pore size, acidic strength, and residence time on the shape selectivity of the product were evaluated. The results show that increasing the acid site strength can enhance the shape selectivity of p-xylene, counterbalancing the effect of pore size.

Kinetic modeling and experimental investigation of composition variation in hydrocarbon upgrading: Application to microwave-assisted reactors

Mahdi Abdi-Khanghah et al.

Summary: A comprehensive study on the composition variation and kinetic of upgrading reactions during microwave-assisted hydrocarbon upgrading was conducted. Experimental results showed that microwave radiation could significantly reduce asphaltene and resin content, and produce gas. Kinetic modeling revealed that at lower oil temperature, aromatic upgrading rate was higher than resin and asphaltene, while increasing oil temperature or radiation exposure time increased asphaltene and resin conversion rate. Based on the kinetic modeling results, it was found that aromatic conversion to gases and resin conversion to aromatics were the dominant mechanisms before and after 8 minutes of radiation, respectively.

A Review on Constraint Handling Techniques for Population-based Algorithms: from single-objective to multi-objective optimization

Iman Rahimi et al.

Summary: This study analyzes scholarly literature on constraint-handling techniques for single-objective and multi-objective population-based algorithms. The results show that the constraint-handling techniques for multi-objective optimization have received less attention compared to single-objective optimization. Genetic algorithms, differential evolutionary algorithms, and particle swarm intelligence are identified as the most promising algorithms for such optimization. Future research work is anticipated to increase in Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics.

Surfactants employed in conventional and unconventional reservoirs for enhanced oil recovery-A review

Oguntade Tomiwa Isaac et al.

Summary: Chemical enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods have gained widespread interest due to depleting crude oil reserves and increasing energy demand. Surfactant flooding, which combines various mechanisms, has proven to be effective in improving oil recovery. However, it still faces challenges such as instability under excessive adsorption and harsh reservoir conditions. This review provides an experimental study on surfactant application in conventional and unconventional reservoirs for EOR, discussing the influence of oilfield element variation, types and EOR mechanisms, surfactant adsorption and adsorption mitigation, and surfactant phase behavior.
