CMB/kSZ and Compton-y Maps from 2500 deg2 of SPT-SZ and Planck Survey Data

L. E. Bleem et al.

Summary: This study presents component-separated maps of the primary cosmic microwave background/kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) amplitude and the thermal SZ Compton-y parameter. The maps, created using data from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) and the Planck satellite, have higher angular resolution and lower noise at small angular scales compared to previous products. Validation tests show good performance in sky modeling and combination algorithms. These data products have great potential for astrophysical and cosmological analyses.

Detection of pairwise kSZ effect with DESI galaxy clusters and Planck

Ziyang Chen et al.

Summary: We report a 5 sigma detection of the pairwise kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect using a combination of galaxy clusters in DESI imaging surveys and the Planck temperature maps. The detection is achieved through improvements in data and analysis method, and it provides important information about the clusters. The study suggests that the signal of the kSZ effect can be significantly improved with additional DESI spectroscopic redshift information and other CMB experiments.

Optical selection bias and projection effects in stacked galaxy cluster weak lensing

Hao-Yi Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the selection bias of the stacked cluster lensing signal associated with optically selected clusters and finds a positive correlation between redMaPPer richness and weak lensing signal at a given cluster halo mass. The results show that the stacked lensing signal is biased high due to the cluster lensing selection bias, leading to overestimated mean cluster mass and biased cosmology results.

The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: A Catalog of >4000 Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Galaxy Clusters

M. Hilton et al.

Summary: This study presents a catalog of 4195 optically confirmed Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) selected galaxy clusters detected by the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) in 13,211 deg(2) of sky. The clusters were selected using a multifrequency matched filter on 98 and 150 GHz maps and confirmed with deep, wide-area optical surveys. The clusters span a wide range of redshifts and include new discoveries, providing a valuable resource for future cosmological analyses and studying the evolution of galaxies in massive clusters.

Exploring the contamination of the DES-Y1 cluster sample with SPT-SZ selected clusters

S. Grandis et al.

Summary: A cross validation of the cluster catalogues selected by redMaPPer and SPT-SZ reveals a calibration of the richness-mass relation using SZE signal mass information. The study finds a lower confirmation rate of redMaPPer clusters at low richness by SPT-SZ, attributing this to low-mass objects incorrectly classified as clusters. By taking into account different cosmologies, the predicted redMaPPer number counts are found to be compatible with measured abundance levels.

Spectroscopic quantification of projection effects in the SDSS redMaPPer galaxy cluster catalogue

J. Myles et al.

Summary: The study reveals that projection effects have a significant impact on the SDSS redMaPPer cluster catalogue and show a strong correlation with cluster richness. Additionally, it is observed that the dependency of projection effects on richness is steeper than previously thought based on state-of-the-art models.

The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: Detection of the pairwise kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect with SDSS DR15 galaxies

V Calafut et al.

Summary: In this study, a 5.4 sigma detection of the pairwise kinematic Sunyaev-Zeldovich (kSZ) effect was achieved by combining Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) and Planck CMB observations with Luminous Red Galaxy samples. The results were based on multiple ACT CMB maps, and the signal extraction of kSZ was conducted using aperture photometry method with a large number of galaxies as tracers. Theoretical predictions of pairwise velocities and optical depth estimates for luminosity-selected tracer samples were utilized to analyze the data.

The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: Probing the baryon content of SDSS DR15 galaxies with the thermal and kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effects

E. M. Vavagiakis et al.

Summary: This study presents measurements of the average thermal Sunyaev Zel'dovich (tSZ) effect and estimates the baryon content within galaxy groups and clusters, showing that the tSZ and kSZ measurements agree within one sigma for most luminosity bins but have a slight discrepancy in the highest luminosity bin. The optical depth estimates from the measurements contribute to one-third to all of the theoretically predicted baryon content in the halos across luminosity bins, with potential systematic uncertainties being discussed. The tSZ and kSZ measurements provide empirical Compton-y-tau relationships for new tests of cluster formation and evolution models.

Measurements of the E-mode polarization and temperature-E-mode correlation of the CMB from SPT-3G 2018 data

D. Dutcher et al.

Summary: In this study, measurements of the E-mode polarization power spectrum and temperature-E-mode cross-power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background were presented using data collected by SPT-3G. The results improve upon previous findings, providing constraints on cosmological parameters and showing a good fit with the.aCDM cosmological model. Combining the SPT-3G and Planck data sets led to tighter constraints on the aCDM model without significant shifts in central values.

Emmanuel Schaan et al.

Summary: This research utilizes combined microwave maps from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope and Planck satellite, along with galaxy catalogs from astrophysical surveys, to study the gas properties in galaxy clusters. The results reveal important information about the gas density profile compared to dark matter, and also measure both tSZ and kSZ signals, providing insights into the internal gas dynamics of galaxy groups.

An Improved Measurement of the Secondary Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies from the SPT-SZ plus SPTpol Surveys

Summary: The study reports new measurements of millimeter-wave power spectra, significantly reducing uncertainties by adding new data. The results show measurements of thermal and kinematic SZ powers at 143 GHz, with the kinematic SZ power measurement exceeding 3 sigma for the first time. The measured kSZ power has important implications for the study of the epoch of reionization.
