A Review of Neuroimaging-Driven Brain Age Estimation for Identification of Brain Disorders and Health Conditions

Shiwangi Mishra et al.

Summary: Neuroimage analysis enables various anatomical analyses of brain regions and aids in detecting different brain conditions/disorders. Brain age estimation based on neuroimaging has emerged as a robust biomarker for detecting diseases and health conditions. This review provides a comprehensive overview of brain age frameworks in terms of design and clinical applications for neurological disorders or health conditions.

A Multi-Stream Convolutional Neural Network for Classification of Progressive MCI in Alzheimer's Disease Using Structural MRI Images

Mona Ashtari-Majlan et al.

Summary: Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and its prodromal stage, known as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), is crucial. A multi-stream deep convolutional neural network is proposed for classifying MCI. Using MRI images and cognitively normal subjects, distinct anatomical landmarks are identified and used to train the model for MRI image classification. Our method outperforms existing methods in MCI classification.

Dementia risk prediction in individuals with mild cognitive impairment: a comparison of Cox regression and machine learning models

Meng Wang et al.

Summary: This study examines the accuracy of various machine learning and Cox regression models for predicting time-to-event outcomes in people with mild cognitive impairment. The results show that Cox regression models have comparable or better predictive performance compared to complex machine learning models.

An Improved Empirical Mode Decomposition of Electroencephalogram Signals for Depression Detection

Jian Shen et al.

Summary: Depression is a serious mental disorder that is predicted to become a major threat to life in the near future. This study proposes an improved feature extraction method based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to accurately extract features from Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals for depression detection. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves high classification accuracy on four EEG databases, comparable to the existing method based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD).

An Optimal Channel Selection for EEG-Based Depression Detection via Kernel-Target Alignment

Jian Shen et al.

Summary: Depression is a mental disorder characterized by persistent and significant low mood. Multichannel EEG signals can be utilized to develop an objective tool for diagnosing depression. Optimal channel selection via kernel-target alignment can effectively improve classification performance in depression detection while aligning with expected activity patterns.
