Sedentarism and chronic disease risk in COVID 19 lockdown - a scoping review

Baskaran Chandrasekaran et al.

Summary: This systematic review highlights sedentary behavior during quarantine, which may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity, hypertension, cancer, and mental health disorders. Prolonged sitting is found to be a pleiotropic risk factor affecting energy expenditure, adipogenic signaling, and other physiological mechanisms that perpetuate chronic diseases. Breaking sitting and engaging in physical activity can reverse the adverse effects associated with excessive sitting during lockdown.
