Consecutive level spacings in the chiral Gaussian unitary ensemble: from the hard and soft edge to the bulk

G. Akemann et al.

Summary: The local spectral statistics of random matrices exhibit distinct behaviors at the spectral edges, known as hard or soft edge. This study focuses on the spacing between consecutive eigenvalues at the edges, showing that they are almost indistinguishable from the spacing in the bulk. Analytical results for these spacings are presented and their convergence is found to be rapid. The Wigner surmise is shown to be a good approximation and is corroborated with Monte-Carlo simulations.

Random matrix model for eigenvalue statistics in random spin systems

Wen-Jia Rao

Summary: We propose a working strategy to describe the eigenvalue statistics of random spin systems along the whole phase diagram with thermal to many-body localization (MBL) transition. Our strategy relies on two well-defined random matrix (RM) models, namely the mixed (Brownian) ensemble and Gaussian beta ensemble. We find that both RM models are capable of capturing the lowest-order level correlations during the transition, while deviations become non-negligible when fitting higher-order ones. Surprisingly, a simple average of these two models gives nearly perfect description of the eigenvalue statistics at all disorder strengths, even around the critical region, indicating the dominant features responsible for the phase transition.

Summary: We conducted a study on the local spectral statistics of the loss surface Hessians of artificial neural networks and found agreement with Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble statistics across several network architectures and datasets. These results shed new light on the applicability of Random Matrix Theory to modeling neural networks and suggest its potential role in the study of loss surfaces in deep learning.

Spectral crossovers and universality in quantum spin chains coupled to random fields

Debojyoti Kundu et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the spectral properties and spectral crossovers between different random matrix ensembles in correlated spin-chain systems. By fitting and analyzing the observed crossovers, we find that the crossover behavior exhibits universality and can be described by a scaling exponent.

Quantum chaos in triangular billiards

Crt Lozej et al.

Summary: An extensive numerical study was conducted on the spectral statistics and eigenfunctions of quantized triangular billiards. Different cases of triangular billiards show varying degrees of agreement with the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble of random matrix theory, extending the quantum chaos conjecture to systems with dynamical mixing in the absence of hard chaos.

Dissipative quantum dynamics, phase transitions, and non-Hermitian random matrices

Mahaveer Prasad et al.

Summary: In this study, the connections between dissipative quantum phase transitions and non-Hermitian random matrix theory are explored, with a focus on the dissipative Dicke model. The spectral features of the Liouvillian describing the quantum dynamics are investigated across the critical point, showing distinct characteristics. This approach can be applied to classify the nature of quantum dynamics across dissipative critical points in other open quantum systems.

Bipartite Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model: Conformal limit and level statistics

Mikael Fremling et al.

Summary: In this study, a bipartite version of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model is investigated. It is found that the solvability of the model in the large-N limit remains the same as the original model when the ratio of both species is kept finite. The scaling dimensions of the two species can be continuously tuned as a function of the ratio. The finite-size spectral properties of the model are also investigated, revealing differences in level statistics compared to the original SYK model and inferring an additional exchange symmetry in the bipartite model.

Q-Laguerre spectral density and quantum chaos in the Wishart-Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model

Lucas Sa et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the Wishart-Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (WSYK) model, which consists of two coupled Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) models with general complex couplings. By analyzing the low-order moments of the Hamiltonian, we found striking similarities between the WSYK model and the Q-Laguerre polynomials. We also observed different features in the spectral density, indicating the presence of quantum chaotic dynamics.

On intermediate statistics across many-body localization transition

Bitan De et al.

Summary: This study investigates the level statistics in the transition between delocalized and localized phases of many-body interacting systems. The single parameter analytic distribution introduced by Pechukas and Yukawa is numerically probed using Monte Carlo method. The resulting Pechukas-Yukawa distribution is found to compare favorably with the beta-Gaussian ensemble and slightly inferior to the two-parameter beta-h ansatz in reproducing level statistics of physical systems.

Critical level statistics at the many-body localization transition region

Wen-Jia Rao

Summary: Researchers located the MBL transition point using the randomness indicator and found that the nth order gap ratio distributions in the critical region fit well with the short-range plasma model for both the orthogonal and unitary models. The results suggest that these critical level statistics are universal and may emerge from the spectrum of a Poisson ensemble.

Signatures of Chaos in Nonintegrable Models of Quantum Field Theories

Miha Srdinsek et al.

Summary: We studied signatures of quantum chaos in (1 + 1)D quantum field theory models using the Hamiltonian truncation method. The level spacing statistics approach the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (GOE), while the eigenvector components exhibit a distribution markedly different from the expected Gaussian behavior. The transition to chaotic behavior in level spacing statistics occurs in the perturbative regime, and the distribution of eigenvector components does not appear to change or approach Gaussian behavior even for relatively large perturbations.

Superposition and higher-order spacing ratios in random matrix theory with application to complex systems

Udaysinh T. Bhosale

Summary: This study examines the superposition of m different spectra in circular orthogonal, unitary, and symplectic ensembles using higher-order spacing ratios, proposing a relation between the modified index ss' and k. Different scaling relations between ss' and k are given for Circular Orthogonal Ensemble and Circular Unitary Ensemble, with conjectures about the order spacing ratio distribution for specific values of k. Results are supported by numerical evidence testing on complex systems such as measured nuclear resonances, quantum chaotic kicked top, and spin chains.
