Selection of keystone species based on stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes to construct a typical food web on the shore of Xingkai Lake, China

Minyan Xing et al.

Summary: In this research, the keystone species in the food web structure on the shore of Xingkai Lake was identified, with Chinese white prawn being recognized as the key species. The study highlighted the importance of link weight as a key factor influencing the identification of keystone species, and the quantitative approach from a holistic perspective proved to be valuable in accurately and effectively conserving biodiversity.

Evaluating the spatial distribution and source of phthalate esters in the surface water of Xingkai Lake, China during summer

Qian Yang et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the distribution and source of phthalate esters (PAEs) in Xingkai Lake, China, and found that PAEs in the lake mainly come from agricultural activities, with high molecular weight PAEs possibly originating from plastic combustion or building materials.

Food web on ice: a pragmatic approach to investigate the trophic magnification of chemicals of concern

Verena Kosfeld et al.

Summary: This study conducted the first TMF investigation for a German freshwater ecosystem to derive TMFs appropriate for regulatory purposes. The results showed that 32 out of 35 compounds analyzed had TMFs significantly above 1, indicating trophic magnification. Through large-scale sample preparation and comparisons with literature TMF values, benchmark samples and comparisons were provided for future studies.
