A New Study on Optimization of Four-Bar Mechanisms Based on a Hybrid-Combined Differential Evolution and Jaya Algorithm

Sy Nguyen-Van et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel hybrid-combined differential evolution (DE) and Jaya algorithm (HCDJ) for the dimensional synthesis of four-bar mechanisms with symmetrical motions. The proposed algorithm, with modified initialization, hybrid-combined mutation, and elitist selection, provides accurate optimal solutions that are even better than those of many other algorithms available in the literature.

The effect of body weight on joint torques in teenagers: Investigation of sit-to-stand movement

Murat Cilli et al.

Summary: The study found that overweight teenagers have increased joint torques in hips, knees, and ankles during sit-to-stand movement, while obese participants have even higher joint torques in these joints. Conversely, underweight participants have lower joint torques in the neck, hip, knee, and ankle.

Module combination based configuration synthesis and kinematic analysis of generalized spherical parallel mechanism for ankle rehabilitation

Jianjun Zhang et al.

Summary: In this research, 6 motion fitting models with higher similarities to the ankle bone structure were proposed to address the issue of unsatisfactory human-machine compatibility in robot design. A module combination configuration synthesis method was presented to construct a Generalized Spherical Parallel Mechanism (GSPM) with partially decoupled characteristics. By analyzing the kinematics of 2 modules based on the proposed method, 6 suitable GSPMs were established.

Effect of Obesity on Knee and Ankle Biomechanics during Walking

Paolo Capodaglio et al.

Summary: This retrospective study quantified the 3D knee and ankle joint kinematics and kinetics during walking in young individuals with different degrees of obesity, revealing significant differences in mechanical aspects at the knee and ankle joints compared to healthy-weight participants. These findings suggest a potential pathway by which obesity may increase the risk of osteoarthritis in healthy adults.

Summary: The study provides a systematic review of the state of the art in parallel ankle rehabilitation robot (PARR) technology, focusing on mechanism configurations, actuator types, and rehabilitation training methods. A total of 65 articles representing 16 unique PARRs were reviewed, revealing mechanical design considerations, actuator types, trajectory tracking control techniques, and the need for clinical trials to validate their effectiveness in rehabilitation. Future research is needed to improve trajectory tracking accuracy, interactive control performance, and develop multimode rehabilitation training methods to meet the needs of different ankle disabilities and rehabilitation stages.

Summary: The paper presents a new mechanism for an index finger rehabilitation device, designed based on a pre-specified trajectory from experimental trials, with rectification constraints to avoid defects. Nature-inspired algorithms proved more effective in generating desired trajectories compared to metaphor-less algorithms, resulting in a defect-free mechanism capable of imitating desired flexion/extension trajectory.
