Modulating the active phase structure of NiMo/Al2O3 by La modification for ultra-deep hydrodesulfurization of diesel

Rixin Yan et al.

Summary: A series of mesoporous NiMo/LaAlOx catalysts with different La contents were synthesized using a solvent evaporation-induced self-assembly method. It was found that the incorporation of La affected the electronic structure and morphology of the NiMoS active phase. A lower amount of La resulted in improved catalytic activity by promoting the formation of the Type II NiMoS phase. However, higher La incorporation led to the generation of inactive phases and a decrease in the proportion of the NiMoS active phase.

Size-dependent surface electronic structure of V2O5/TiO2 for ultra-deep aerobic oxidative desulfurization of diesel

Jixing Liu et al.

Summary: A series of V2O5/TiO2 catalysts with different V2O5 sizes (3-10 nm) were designed and fabricated using a citric acid-assisted hydrothermal dispersion of active metal strategy. The structure and properties of the catalysts were characterized, and their catalytic activities and reaction kinetics for the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) were investigated. The results showed that the V2O5 size played a crucial role in influencing the redox property and V5+/V4+ ratio of the catalysts. V2O5/TiO2-1 with the smallest V2O5 size (about 3 nm) exhibited the highest ODS activity, achieving almost 100% DBT conversion within 80 minutes at 120 degrees Celsius, due to its optimal redox property, V5+/V4+ ratio, and the lowest apparent activation energy (Ea = 43.0 kJ/mol). Increasing the V2O5 size from 3 nm to 10 nm led to a noticeable increase in Ea to 53.5 kJ/mol, resulting in a sharp decrease in the ODS activity of V2O5/TiO2-3.

Active phase morphology engineering of NiMo/Al2O3 through La introduction for boosting hydrodesulfurization of 4,6-DMDBT

Ji-Xing Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a mesoporous LaAlOx catalyst was designed and constructed through a solvent evaporation-induced self-assembly method. The structure and physicochemical properties of the NiMo supported catalyst were characterized, and its catalytic activity for hydrodesulfurization (HDS) was investigated. The incorporation of La was found to significantly enhance the generation of Type II NiMoS phase, leading to improved HDS performance by promoting sulfidation and modifying the morphology of Ni promoted MoS2 slabs. This finding contributes to the understanding of structure-activity relationships in ultra-deep desulfurization and inspires the development of highly-efficient HDS catalysts in the future.

Catalyst Design for Selective Hydrogenation of Benzene to Cyclohexene through Density Functional Theory and Microkinetic Modeling

Haoran He et al.

Summary: Cyclohexene is a chemical intermediate produced through catalytic partial hydrogenation of benzene. Density functional theory calculations and microkinetic modeling illustrate that the binding energy of benzene is a predictor of a catalyst's cyclohexene selectivity. Ni5Ga3 and Ni3Ga intermetallic compounds are predicted to be highly selective catalysts for benzene hydrogenation to cyclohexene.
