Three-dimensional color-gradient lattice Boltzmann model for simulating droplet ringlike migration under an omnidirectional thermal gradient

Xiaojin Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, a three-dimensional color-gradient lattice Boltzmann model is used to investigate the migration behavior of a droplet under an omnidirectional thermal gradient. The droplet is found to migrate in a ringlike pattern on the substrate, and the volume and wetting properties of the droplet play a significant role in the migration behavior. The direction of droplet migration is influenced by the offset distance of the temperature gradient.

Convection-Diffusion with the Colour Gradient Lattice Boltzmann Method for Three-Component, Two-Phase Flow

Peter Mora et al.

Summary: The Rothman-Keller colour gradient LBM method is used to simulate two-phase flow of immiscible fluids and study viscous fingering behavior in porous media. The method includes modeling number densities of the two fluids, a recoloring step for separation, and the use of an additive to vary the viscosity of one fluid.

Thermocapillary convection in superimposed layers of self-rewetting fluids: Analytical and lattice Boltzmann computational study

Bashir Elbousefi et al.

Summary: Self-rewetting fluids (SRFs), such as aqueous solutions of long-chain alcohols, exhibit a unique surface tension dependence on temperature and have been used to enhance flow and thermal transport. In this study, a new analytical solution and computational method were developed to investigate the thermocapillary convection in SRFs. The results show that SRFs exhibit different flow patterns and directions compared to normal fluids (NFs) due to their unique surface tension behavior.

Dewetting regimes of condensation droplets in a microgroove

He Wang et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the dewetting process of droplets in grooves and reveals the important effects of groove geometry and wettability on the process. Three dewetting regimes, namely retention, partial dewetting, and complete dewetting, are identified. Both partial dewetting and complete dewetting are effective ways to remove droplets.

Droplet impact on a heated porous plate above the Leidenfrost temperature: A lattice Boltzmann study

Geng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamics of droplet impact on a heated porous plate above the Leidenfrost temperature using a multiphase thermal lattice Boltzmann model. The results showed that higher plate temperature, larger Weber number, and smaller pore intervals can accelerate the droplet rebound and promote the droplet pancake bouncing. The droplet evaporation mass loss increases linearly with the impingement Weber number and the plate opening fractions.

Three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann investigation on pore scale liquid-vapor distribution patterns and heat transfer performance of a loop heat pipe heterogeneous porous wick evaporator

Jian Li et al.

Summary: Numerical simulations were conducted on the evaporation process of a three-dimensional porous wick capillary evaporator used in a loop heat pipe, revealing changes in wick state from saturated to dryout as heat flux increases. The effective heat transfer coefficient is significantly influenced by wick porosity, while the impact of contact angle is minimal.

Lattice Boltzmann study of nucleation site interaction and nucleate boiling heat transfer on a hybrid surface with multiple cavity-pillar structures

Shakeel Ahmad et al.

Summary: The study investigates the nucleation site interaction and nucleate boiling heat transfer on a hybrid rough surface with multiple cavities and pillars using a two-dimensional pseudopotential phase-change lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). It is found that the hybrid surface enhances heat transfer area and reduces induced flow effects, leading to higher heat flux compared to a simple rough surface. The presence of pillars activates suppressed cavities and increases heat flux, with different configurations affecting the heat transfer performance. Additionally, saturated boiling curves show higher heat flux in nucleate boiling for the hybrid surface and increasing pillar height can further enhance heat transfer in the developing region.

Study on boiling heat transfer in a shear flow through the lattice Boltzmann method

Deming Nie et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the liquid-vapor phase change and boiling heat transfer induced by a microheater in a fluid using a two-phase lattice Boltzmann method. The effects of gravity force, flow strength, and wall wettability are considered. The results show that, for hydrophilic surfaces, flow motion has little effect on the bubble release period, while for hydrophobic surfaces, bubble departure is significantly accelerated by the shear flow.

Improved thermal multiple-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann model for liquid-vapor phase change

Shengyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an improved thermal MRT LB model for simulating liquid-vapor phase change, allowing arbitrary specification of the latent heat of vaporization by decoupling it from the equation of state. The proposed temperature equation avoids the Laplacian term and calculates the temperature gradient term through a local scheme. An improved MRT LB equation with nondiagonal relaxation matrix effectively solves the temperature equation and avoids implicit calculation caused by the source term.
