Summary: Telepsychiatry, as a supplement to or substitute for face-to-face therapeutic consultations, has seen unprecedented development during the current pandemic crisis. While treatment results of online video consultations appear comparable to traditional care, there are significant changes in communication behavior to consider. These changes may impact the ethical aspects of therapeutic relationships in psychiatry.

Summary: This study aims to explore the experiences of Danish patients using video consultation to consult their general practitioners during COVID-19 lockdown and their attitudes towards continued use beyond COVID-19. The findings indicate that participants showed positive attitudes towards future use of video consultation as either a supplementary or alternative form of general practice.

Summary: Physicians' experiences of video consultation with new patients at a publicly owned virtual primary care clinic varied from straightforward to deficient, depending on communication and patients' conditions. The flexibility and regulated assignment of online work were positive for physicians, but doubts were expressed about the healthcare and social benefits of this virtual care service. Video consultation was considered suitable for certain diagnoses and patients, but easy access to it posed challenges in terms of medical prioritization in healthcare.

Use of alternative consultation forms in Danish general practice in the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic - a qualitative study

Summary: This study examined how GPs in Denmark reorganized their clinical work during the COVID-19 pandemic. It found that GPs experienced limitations with telephone and video consultations, but these alternatives were still valuable when face-to-face consultations had to be restricted. The study suggests that such alternatives may be useful in future pandemics at least for a short term.

Video Consultation as an Adequate Alternative to Face-to-Face Consultation in Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Use for Newly Diagnosed Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Randomized Controlled Trial

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the superiority of video consultation over face-to-face consultation for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on CPAP use, adherence, self-efficacy, risk outcomes, outcome expectancies, expectations and experiences with video consultation, and satisfaction of patients and nurses. The findings suggest that support of OSA patients with video consultation does not lead to superior results on CPAP use and adherence compared with face-to-face consultation. The study also highlights the importance of self-efficacy in improving CPAP use.

A methodology to improve eye contact in telepsychotherapy via videoconferencing with considerations for psychological distance

Summary: This article describes the steps towards a practical and inexpensive setup for enabling eye contact between therapists and clients in telepsychotherapy by videoconference. Two different camera framing conditions were tested in simulated sessions, and participants preferred the framing condition congruent with their desired psychological distance from their partner. This highlights the importance of camera zooming in affecting perception of psychological distance in videoconference therapy.
