Ship Detection Based on Faster R-CNN Using Range-Compressed Airborne Radar Data

Tamara Loran et al.

Summary: Near real-time ship monitoring is essential for safety and security at sea. This letter presents two object-oriented ship detectors based on the faster region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN), which can improve ship detection in radar imagery. The detectors are trained on real X-band airborne RC radar data patches and show high recall performance even in dense multitarget scenarios.

Tracking and Track Management of Extended Targets in Range-Doppler Using Range-Compressed Airborne Radar Data

Sushil Kumar Joshi et al.

Summary: The article introduces a ship tracking concept using an airborne radar sensor, suitable for dense multitarget scenarios. Tracking is done in the range-Doppler domain to enhance detectability of ships, and a track management system is developed to handle false targets. Simulated and real experimental results are presented to demonstrate the concept using DLR's airborne radar sensors F-SAR and DBFSAR.

SHIP DETECTION IN RANGE-COMPRESSED SAR DATA

Xiangguang Leng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a ship detection method in range-compressed SAR data. It first uses complex signal kurtosis to pre-screen potential ship areas, and then employs a convolutional neural network for discrimination. Experimental results show that the method performs well in range-compressed SAR data.

ESP-LRSMD: A Two-Step Detector for Ship Detection Using SLC SAR Imagery

Zongsen Lv et al.

Summary: Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is an active microwave remote sensing equipment that can provide high-resolution images for Earth observation in all-day and all-weather conditions. Ship monitoring using SAR is crucial for fishery applications, marine transportation, and maritime security. This article proposes a two-step detector that utilizes SAR Single-Look Complex (SLC) data to detect ship targets based on the strong scattering feature in the image domain and low-rank feature in the transforming domain. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed detector using European Sentinel-1A and Chinese Gaofen-3 SAR SLC data.
