Deciphering the electronic-level mechanism of Na plus transport in a graphdiyne desalination membrane with periodic nanopores

Jiongjiong Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the desalination performance of graphdiyne membranes and finds that they have high salt rejection rate and structural stability, making them suitable for desalination applications. The periodic pore structure and charge transfer in graphdiyne membranes help block the filtration and agglomeration of salt ions, while also imparting metallic conductivity to the membrane. Electric field can be applied to enable the reuse of reverse osmosis membranes, increasing their lifespan.

Summary: The study focuses on the utility of graphdiyne (GDY) nanoflakes as an electrochemical sensor material for detecting hazardous chemical warfare agents (CWAs) such as A-230, A-232, and A-234. The adsorption of CWAs on GDY is explained within the density functional theory (DFT) framework, showing that analytes are physiosorbed onto GDY through noncovalent interactions. This noncovalent adsorption is attributed to dispersion factors dominating in the complexes among various noncovalent components.
