Influence of N-introduction in pentacene on the electronic structure and excited electronic states

Marvin Hoffmann et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structural and electronic properties of N-heteropolycyclic aromatic compounds adsorbed on a gold surface using vibrational and electronic spectroscopy. The results showed that these compounds adsorb in a planar geometry and the introduction of nitrogen atoms significantly enhances the intensity of the alpha-band in the UV/vis absorption spectrum.

Impact of Connectivity on the Electronic Structure of N-Heterotriangulenes

Mohsen Ajdari et al.

Summary: In this study, the structural and electronic properties of N-HTA 550 and N-HTA 557 adsorbed on Au(111) were investigated using experimental and computational methods. The results showed that both N-HTAs adopt a planar adsorption geometry, and N-HTA 557 has a smaller optical gap due to its larger pi-conjugated electron system.

Band Formation at Interfaces Between N-Heteropolycycles and Gold Electrodes

Arnulf Stein et al.

Summary: Efficient charge injection at organic semiconductor/metal interfaces is crucial for organic field effect transistors. Hybrid band formation between electronic states of the organic compound and the metal electrode facilitates effective charge injection. Investigation on a long-range ordered monolayer of a flat-lying N-heteropolycyclic aromatic compound on Au(111) reveals dispersing occupied and unoccupied interfacial hybrid bands, with energy level alignment and dispersion relations determined using angle-resolved two-photon photoemission. The band formation is suggested to proceed via hybridization of localized occupied molecular state with d-bands of Au substrate, resulting in significantly reduced effective mass and an even smaller effective mass for unoccupied molecular state hybridizing with Au sp-band.

Influence of Core Halogenation on the Electronic Structure of Naphthothiadiazole Derivatives

Mohsen Ajdari et al.

Summary: The study focused on the structural and electronic properties of naphthothiadiazole (NTD) derivatives adsorbed on Au(111) in monolayer and thin films, revealing that in the monolayer and multilayer coverage regime, the NTD derivatives adsorbed in a planar fashion with the optical gap reduced due to halogenation.

Electronic Properties of Tetraazaperopyrene Derivatives on Au(111): Energy-Level Alignment and Interfacial Band Formation

Arnulf Stein et al.

Summary: Through experimental methods and theoretical simulations, the electronic properties of 1,3,8,10-tetraazaperopyrene derivatives adsorbed on Au(111) were investigated. The results showed weak physisorption of the molecular layers and hybridization of molecular states with the Au(111) substrate. These findings are important for the design of materials with organic-metal interfaces having a low charge injection barrier.
