A reflection on the Great Resignation in the hospitality and tourism industry

Bingjie Liu-Lastres et al.

Summary: This paper critically reflects on the Great Resignation in the hospitality and tourism industry following the COVID-19 pandemic. It reviews the causes and effects of the Great Resignation, addresses the labor shortage issue, and proposes strategies to manage the challenges. The study finds that the pandemic has acted as a catalyst rather than the leading cause of this trend, and workforce issues have become increasingly complex due to various internal and external factors. Practical implications are provided for practitioners in the industry to respond to the changing needs of employees and improve as employers. This study contributes to the understanding of the contemporary issue and offers suggestions for future research directions.
