Realistic magnetic thermodynamics by local quantization of a semiclassical Heisenberg model

Flynn Walsh et al.

Summary: Classical Monte Carlo simulation falls short in describing thermodynamic phenomena in the Heisenberg model due to its neglect of quantum nature. However, by using semiclassical approaches, it is possible to introduce a locally approximate form of spin quantization. While the method underestimates magnetic short-range order, a simple correction can be applied to recover realistic spin-spin correlations. Ensemble fluctuations provide reasonably accurate thermodynamics, reproducing quantum mechanically calculated heat capacities and experimental magnetometry for ferromagnetic Fe and antiferromagnetic RbMnF3. Extensions of the method are proposed to address remaining inaccuracies.

Charge and spin correlations in insulating and incoherent metal states of twisted bilayer graphene

A. A. Katanin

Summary: We study the electronic, charge, and magnetic properties of twisted bilayer graphene with specific fillings per moire unit cell. The results show the importance of spin exchange between certain lattice spots in introducing charge and spin correlations. The local spectral functions indicate a gapped state at specific fillings, while the nonlocal charge and spin susceptibilities exhibit incommensurate pattern.

Hidden order and multipolar exchange striction in a correlated f-electron system

Leonid Pourovskii et al.

Summary: This passage discusses the nature of order in low-temperature phases of certain materials and the hidden orders that may spark research interest. By studying neptunium dioxide NpO2, it is found that the ground-state order and magnetic excitations can be fully described by a low-energy Hamiltonian, revealing the multipolar exchange mechanism behind the anomalous volume contraction of the NpO2 HO phase.

Itinerant magnetism of chromium under pressure: a DFT plus DMFT study

A. S. Belozerov et al.

Summary: The electronic and magnetic properties of chromium were studied using a combination of DFT and DMFT, revealing weak electronic correlations and a lack of formation of local magnetic moments. The non-uniform magnetic susceptibility showed sharp maxima at the wave vector Q(H) = (0, 0, 2pi/a), corresponding to Kohn anomalies. These anomalies were preserved by interactions and pressure did not destroy them, leading to a qualitative decrease in the Neel temperature and breakdown of itinerant antiferromagnetism at around 9 GPa.

Generalized dynamical mean-field theory of two-sublattice systems with long-range interactions and its application to study charge and spin correlations in graphene

A. A. Katanin

Summary: The study investigates magnetic and charge correlations in graphene using extended dynamical mean-field theory (E-DMFT) for two-sublattice systems. The method maps nonlocal interactions onto effective static interactions between different sublattices and introduces an effective retarded interaction to consider the remaining nonlocal interactions. The study demonstrates the competition of semimetal, spin density wave (SDW), and charge-density-wave (CDW) correlations in graphene.

Parametrizations of local vertex corrections from weak to strong coupling: Importance of the Hedin three-leg vertex

Viktor Harkov et al.

Summary: In the study of correlated systems, the local vertex corrections can be efficiently parametrized in terms of single-boson exchange, allowing for the approximate recovery of two-particle physics described by DMFT at reduced computational cost. The importance of frequency-dependent fermion-boson coupling for local vertex corrections is highlighted, showing its effects on Neel temperature and local spin-fluctuation exchange. Neglecting the nontrivial part of the fermion-boson coupling in vertex parametrizations leads to qualitative failures at strong coupling.

Exchange interactions and magnetic force theorem

I. Solovyev

Summary: This article critically reexamines the interatomic exchange interactions in the framework of cSDFT, and discusses the impacts of spin rotations on total energy change. Differences between magnetic force theorem and exact theory in describing the relation between exchange interactions and response function have significant consequences for various materials. The study emphasizes the importance of considering ligand spins and selecting appropriate variables for describing spin rotations within cSDFT theory.
