Implication of prolonged nocturnal hypoxemia and obstructive sleep apnea for pulmonary hemodynamics in patients being evaluated for pulmonary hypertension: a retrospective study

Zhihua Huang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the pathophysiologic contributions of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) towards pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. Data of patients with OSA who underwent right heart catheterization for pulmonary hemodynamics evaluation were retrospectively reviewed. The time percentage spent with SpO2 below 90% (T90) was found to be the sole and strongest independent factor associated with mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP), pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR), and RV stroke work index (RVSWI).

Effect of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Positive Airway Pressure Therapy on Cardiac Remodeling as Assessed by Cardiac Biomarker and Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Nonobese and Obese Adults

Liyue Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of obesity on the effectiveness of PAP therapy and the levels of NT-proBNP in adults with and without OSA. The results indicated that obesity modified the effects of PAP treatment on NT-proBNP and left atrial volume index, suggesting potential differences in cardiac remodeling in obese individuals with OSA.
