Coronary artery disease in East and South Asians: differences observed on cardiac CT

Alexander Chua et al.

Summary: Epidemiological studies have found differences in the development of coronary artery disease between East Asians and Caucasians, with East Asians exhibiting less calcification and high-risk plaque. South Asians, on the other hand, show higher rates of coronary calcification and stenosis. Future research may clarify the prognostic value of cardiac CT in South Asians and guide preventative therapy for coronary artery disease in both East and South Asians.

Association of Age With the Diagnostic Value of Coronary Artery Calcium Score for Ruling Out Coronary Stenosis in Symptomatic Patients

Martin Bodtker Mortensen et al.

Summary: The diagnostic value of a 0 CAC score may vary with age, with smaller added diagnostic value for younger patients. In symptomatic patients under 60 years old, a significant proportion of obstructive CAD occurred in those without CAC and was associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction and all-cause death.

Association of coronary artery calcium score with qualitatively and quantitatively assessed adverse plaque on coronary CT angiography in the SCOT-HEART trial

Maia Osborne-Grinter et al.

Summary: Coronary artery calcification is a marker of cardiovascular risk, but its association with different plaque subtypes is unclear. In stable chest pain patients, having a zero CACS does not guarantee a perfect prognosis and cannot rule out obstructive coronary artery disease, non-obstructive plaque, or adverse plaque phenotypes such as low-attenuation plaque.

Summary: Although the prevalence of kidney stones remains higher in adult US men than in women, the trend has been increasing only in women, closing the gender gap in kidney stone prevalence over the past decade.

Prognostic Value of Coronary CT Angiography in Patients With Non-ST-Segment Elevation Acute

Klaus F. Kofoed et al.

Summary: Coronary CTA is found to be equivalent to ICA in assessing long-term risk in patients with NSTEACS, with the rate of primary endpoint being up to 1.7-fold higher in patients with obstructive CAD compared to those with nonobstructive CAD as defined by both imaging modalities.

Crosstalk between Renal and Vascular Calcium Signaling: The Link between Nephrolithiasis and Vascular Calcification

Chan-Jung Liu et al.

Summary: Calcium is a crucial mediator in multicellular homeostasis and is implicated in various diseases. The interplay among the kidney, bone, intestine, and parathyroid gland in calcium homeostasis is tightly regulated by hormones and signaling pathways. The calcium-sensing receptor plays a pivotal role in calcium regulation in calcitropic tissues, and aberrations in its function may lead to conditions like hypercalciuria, calcium nephrolithiasis, and vascular calcification.
