A Local Atomic Mechanism for Monoclinic-Tetragonal PhaseBoundary Creation in Li-Doped Na0.5K0.5NbO3Ferroelectric Solid Solution

Jing Kong et al.

Summary: ABO(3) perovskites exhibit phase transitions driven by polyhedral distortions and octahedral tilting. Heterogeneous substitutions at the A/B-site are used to create phase boundaries and enhance functional properties. In KNNL, the monoclinic-to-tetragonal transition across the morphotropic phase boundary is an order-disorder change driven by competition between polarization field and local distortions. This study provides insights into local distortions near phase boundaries in complex solid solution systems.

Jahn-Teller and Pseudo-Jahn-Teller Effects: From Particular Features to General Tools in Exploring Molecular and Solid State Properties

Isaac B. Bersuker

Summary: The Jahn-Teller effect (JTE) and pseudo-JTE (PJTE) have been shown to be general tools in studying physical and chemical phenomena related to the structural properties of polyatomic systems. They are virtual properties of all molecular and solid state formations resulting from vibronic coupling compensating for errors introduced in semi-classical definitions of polyatomic configurations.
