Sex proportion as a covariate increases the statistical test power in growth performance based experiments using as-hatched broilers

Ashley D. England et al.

Summary: The unavailability of sexed day-old broiler chicks poses challenges for broiler researchers. This study evaluated the impact of including sex proportion as a covariate in an analysis, and found that when model significance and observed power were low, including sex proportion improved statistical power. However, if ANOVA showed high model significance and power, ANCOVA was not necessary. Thus, considering sex proportion as a covariate in ANCOVA is recommended for nutritional experiments involving unequally distributed male and female broilers.

Efficacy of Rumex nervosus leaves or Cinnamomum verum bark as natural growth promoters on the growth performance, immune responsiveness, and serum biochemical profile of broiler chickens

Abdulmohsen H. Alqhtani et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential growth and health promotion effects of Rumex nervosus leaves and Cinnamomum verum bark as phytogenic growth promoters on broilers. The results showed that using these plant-based additives at appropriate doses can maximize broiler performance without compromising health.

Effects of rearing system and narasin on growth performance, gastrointestinal development, and gut microbiota of broilers

L. Yan et al.

Summary: According to the study, broilers reared in the PN system had a higher body weight. The MC system led to poorer intestinal development and health condition, but with better FCR. The FL rearing system appeared to be beneficial for gastrointestinal development and health.

Nutrition and Digestive Physiology of the Broiler Chick: State of the Art and Outlook

Velmurugu Ravindran et al.

Summary: The first week after hatch poses significant challenges for broilers as their immature digestive tract undergoes dramatic changes to efficiently digest and absorb nutrients. As the birds grow older, limitations in digestive enzymes and absorptive surface area are overcome, leading to improved nutrient utilization. Early nutrition interventions can help chicks develop their digestive functions, enabling them to grow efficiently and reach their genetic potential.

Potential impact of stocking density on growth, carcass traits, indicators of biochemical and oxidative stress and meat quality of different broiler breeds

Mohammed A. F. Nasr et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of different stocking densities on growth performance, carcass traits, biochemical indicators, oxidative stress, and meat quality of Arbor Acres and Ross-308 broilers. The results showed that medium stocking density was optimal for overall performance and welfare of the birds, balancing production cost and quality effectively.

Effect of Environmental Complexity and Stocking Density on Fear and Anxiety in Broiler Chickens

Mallory G. Anderson et al.

Summary: The study found that broilers raised under high stocking density conditions at 3 weeks of age were less fearful than those under low density conditions, and that living in a complex environment reduced anxiety and improved welfare for the broilers.

Clinical overview of diabetes mellitus as a risk factor for cardiovascular death

Eyad Abuelgasim et al.

Summary: Global prevalence of diabetes mellitus is on the rise, with type 2 diabetes being associated with abnormal cardiac electrophysiology and increased risk of arrhythmias, leading to sudden cardiac death (SCD) as a major cause of mortality for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients. Various pathways connecting hypoglycemia to adverse cardiovascular outcomes have been suggested. To optimize SCD risk factors in diabetic patients, raising awareness to influence health behavior, providing screening programs, using technology in educational programs to improve patient engagement, and effective provision of diabetic community teams are essential.
