Efficiency of Japanese herbal medicine shokenchuto for nocturnal enuresis: An observational study

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed the efficacy of shokenchuto (SKT) in treating 110 patients with nocturnal enuresis (NE). It found that SKT was significantly effective in patients aged 10 years and older, suggesting it as a good alternative treatment when alarm or DDAVP therapies are ineffective. Prospectively evaluating SKT for NE treatment is recommended.

Summary: This study compared the formulas used in traditional Japanese Kampo pediatrics in the nineteenth century with contemporary practices. It found that the modern pediatric Kampo guideline uses classical formulas more frequently than the historical IMP, but does not incorporate any of the Japanese original formulas described in IMP. Further investigation of pediatric books is needed to fully understand the development of Kampo pediatrics.
